Per Fox News...
Someone quoted the whole passage on another thread, and the gist of it was more that, in Casey, the USSC apparently intended to establish Roe as a "super-stare decisis."
Good point...hadn't thought of that.
FYI, McCain is on Imus now speaking very highly of Alito. McCain should be able to help bring the other RINO's over.
Meaningless, since Specter can (and will) point to the decisions Alito has made since then which have disappointed him and "force" him to withhold his vote.
"I'm glad another woman wasn't nominated. Don't want every USSC seat assigned an affirmative action minority status from here to eternity."
I agree. If he's better than Janice Rogers Brown, I'd be delighted. But considering what Laura Bush had said, and how feebly Team Bush reacted to Laura, the point is begging to be made.
"If the RINOs don't get Alito through the Senate, will those pantywaists be re-elected?"
I think the message sent by the "true" Conservatives over the Miers debacle should be a wake-up call for them. If not, then NO, they will NOT be re-elected. But, then I just remembered what Rick Santorum and the White House did to Specter's conservative opponent in the last Pennsylvania Senate race GOP Primary. Heck, who knows?
BTW, I think Rick Santorum is in real re-election trouble because of that.
They'll use him as cover.
"I wasn't really crazy about Miers, but denying her a vote was a disaster in the making for sometime in the future."
By that reasoning, Bernard Kerik's withdrawal was a disaster, too. Yet I didn't hear many here claiming that he had been cheated of a vote...
The up or down issue applies to Senate filibusters, not withdrawals. The latter happen all the time, and are perfectly appropriate.

Judicial Confirmation Network Praises Credentials, Experience of Judge Alito
Washington, D.C. - Wendy E. Long, counsel to The Judicial Confirmation Network (www.judicialnetwork.com), today made the following statement on the President's nomination of federal Court of Appeals Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court:
"The President has obviously chosen based on objective merit. Judge Alito is the best there is, in terms of legal credentials, judicial experience, intellectual ability, fairmindedness, and faithfulness to the Constitution and the role of the Court as a neutral and nonpolitical branch of government.
"I think all Americans would agree: we want our Constitution and our court disputes in the hands of the smartest, most neutral, and most experienced jurists in our country. The Democrat-controlled Senate recognized these qualities in Judge Alito when it unanimously confirmed him to the Court of Appeals, and the Republican-led Senate should do the same thing again with his nomination to the Supreme Court."
Re-read post # 57. I said that Coulter, Frum, and Krauthammer would probably jump on the bandwagon. If they did not, I gave reasons why they'd complain. BTW, I'm happy that Miers withdrew.
A double me to on that one. He has been discredited but the media pays no attention. Amazing, if the liberals weren't so blinded by Bush hatred they'd see that the fears they always had about an out of control CIA have come to fruition.
Good news. Another poster mentioned McCain might be posturing for a 2008 Presidential run, so now he'd be willing to side with the Conservatives.
I hadn't thought of that point. McCain is a reed in the wind...he goes with what gets him what he wants...at the time.
Glad he's for Alito.
Oh, here we go. You're one of the "real" conservatives and anyone on this forum who doesn't agree with you is a faux conservative.
NRO has a blurb that Lautenberg just endorsed Alito..Pigs flying at Newark airport? What will Corzine do?
I heard that too.....and that is good "news" indeed! I can't wait to hear what Schumer says!!
There's more to life than pure emotion. Conservatives should pat THEMSELVES on the back, absolutely.
YES!!!
"...Its "Farggin War!" time."
WooHoo!
Love the movie Johnny Dangerously and it's about time.

Re-read post # 57. I said that I'd guess the pundits would jump on the Alito bandwagon...but if they didn't, I gave reasons why they'd complain. Regardless, I'm glad that Miers withdrew.
