Senator Clinton Urges President To Select Next Supreme Court Nominee By Consensus
NY 1 ^ | October 27, 2005 | NY 1 News

As the president prepares to select a new nominee for the Supreme Court, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton released a statement urging the president to select the next nominee carefully.

"I urge the president to take seriously the Constitution's charge and to engage the U.S. Senate – both Republicans and Democrats – in a process of genuine consultation in order to identify and ultimately confirm a consensus nominee," the New York senator said in a statement Thursday.

Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination to the Supreme Court Thursday amid escalating criticism about her qualifications for the job.

The president said he reluctantly accepted Miers' decision to withdraw.

Over the past few weeks, President George W. Bush has reiterated his support for the embattled nominee. He attributes her withdrawal to members of the Senate who have called for the release of internal White House documents.

Senator Chuck Schumer, who serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, took issue with that defense.

"The White House offered a nominee who had no record except for the documents, and then said, we won't give you the documents," said Schumer. "It was sort of like saying, the president kept saying, the more you learn about Harriet Miers, the more you'll like her. And then said, I'm not going to let you learn about her."

Miers' current post is White House Counsel. She has never served as a judge.

The president has known Miers professionally since his days as the Governor of Texas.

Her rationale for withdrawing is noted in a letter to the president, which read in part: "I am concerned that the confirmation process presents a burden for the White House and our staff that is not in the best interests of the country."

A senior White House official said Bush is quickly trying to find a new nominee to replace retiring justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Just the way her husband sought consensus when he appointed Breyer and Ginsburg? Breyer, who thinks the words of the Constitution don't matter, that it is "a living and evolving document", that foreign law matters?

So if HRC is president in 2009 and needs to appoint a justice, I'm sure she will reach out to the Republicans for input. Ha ha!

If conservative senators object to the far left nominees she puts up, Madam President would scream that they have no say in the matter.

"Even more amazing is how the Majority of 55 lets them!"

What do you suppose the Ginsberg vote would be today. Should we ask the repubbie senators that voted that 12 years ago?

Does anyone think she would get a single repubbie vote?

Sorry, Hillary, but ... been there, done that. Miers was the consensus candidate.

Now, it is incumbent on Bush to appoint a true conservative to counterbalance Ginsberg -- the appointee of your husband.

And President Hillary will do the same for us, right? Wrong.

The liberals have played these games for too long. They call for Republicans to move as close to them as possible, yet they NEVER do the same for the Right.

Why do so many on our side fall for it? Are we the waterboys of the Left? Ignore them.

"I hereby urge the Junior Senator from New York to shove a mop handle down her own throat."

Alternatively, she could chug a pitcher of liquid Drano.

Hillary, Bush won - Bush gets to select his judicial nominees - did your rapist husband give up his rights as president to select? Have either of you ever done anything by consensus? How stupid do you think we are?

Utter nonsense. And this from a woman who has been touted as a potential SC nominee. Of course. this came from Democrats, no lovers or understanders of the Constituion themselves.

Hillary wants a consensus nominee, like Ruth Bader-Ginsburg! Doesn't she have to get on her broom for Halloween?

The Constitution Committee members were absolute that they DID NOT want the choice to be a Senate Charge although it had been proposed. Excerpt: "55 Men The Story of the Constitution" by Fred Rodell...."If the Senate, with small states voted equally, should do the choosing, "the judges might be appointed by a minority of the people".

Based on Madison's Notes

Gee, that kinda takes care of the filibuster issue, too.

No president has EVER had to get a consensus when naming a Supreme Court nominee.

... there has never been a president so hated by the left as President Bush is.

Two very important statements that needed shouted!

Every rule, every tradition, every constitutional authority has been thrown out the window, for PRESIDENT Bush. Suddenly, mob rule, consensus, communist goals and pure stupidity are being demanded of this President.

Reminds me of the very small minority of Sunni's in Iraq with their bussed in foreign terrorists, trying to control the political process in Iraq. They have learned well from their US counter parts, the demonRATs.

and ultimately confirm a consensus nominee

Anyone want to start a poll of how much longer it will be before Hillary stoops to read the Constitution?

PRESIDENT Bush met with 80 senators before he chose Ms. Miers.

How many senators did the impeached one meet with before he chose Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg?

I live in New York.

I did not want her to be my Senator. Lazio was a wonderful candidate. He had experience and grew up in NY.

Well, Chucky the Schmucky is just as bad.

If people understood how the country is set up, what the Founding Fathers had in mind,

Then they would know that the people elected Bush, in part, to nominate Supreme Court Justices. Hillary's comment is insane !

But people do not understand a bit about our supposedly co-equal branches of government, the Senate, the House, nor how the administration is set up either. (I'm learning, I'm no brainiac, LOL !)

That is why people like Hillary are able to get into power at all. It is frustrating. I want to shake my fellow Americans before it is too late.......

Why would any progressive person entertain socialism ? It has failed all over the world, but she loves it !

(Forgive me folks, I'm on the soapbox this morning...: D)

Consensus, as defined by Hillary Clinton

Pro-choice
Anti-Gun
Anti-War, if it suits the nominee's political purpose
Pro-terrorist rights
Anti National Security
Pro Open Borders
in short, when you hear a lib say "consensus" just replace that with "follow the democratic party line".

So the title of this artcle could have been:

Senator Clinton Urges President To Select Next Supreme Court Nominee By Follwoing Democratic Party Line
