Marking for later reference. Thanks for posting.
Problem with a short list is it makes people put blinders on. That's exactly what happened last time. Don't make the same unimaginative mistakes again.
WAIT A SECOND!!! WHERE THE HELL IS MY BIO!!! Drat, left out again.
I have to say, I like Estrada for demographic reasons, both age and heritage. Also I like him for sticking it to the Dims who fillibustered him.
The president is in the position now of saying to the Dims that if they wanted someone like Miers, they should have supported her.
I don't know about these judges but they have to be better than poor mrs. Miers. I think Mrs. Williams faces the easer time.
51 & 50 years old - YES! They'd be there for EVER. The moonbats would be throwing "Mass Suicide Parties"
:-)
Wonder why they left out some of the other chicks like Sykes, Batchelder, and Corrigan?
Same old suspects, a number of whom would be great. But the President has shown a liking for dark horse candidates and will be doubly careful after the Miers debacle.
Thanks for posting.
The only glaring "fly in the ointment" is Gonzales...
gad, he would be a NIGHTMARE!
One name is missing who I think will make an excellent Supreme Court Justice --- the former Solicitor General --- Theodore Olson.
A True Originalist/Constructionist whose opinions and arguments are always calm, cogent and well reasoned.
An in-your-face nomination to the Dems, and an gift to his conservative base.
Heck, even his arch-rival Lawrence Tribe admires the man.
I do not see how we are going to get a real conservative through the rino and Dem senate. This was slap in the face to Bush and weakened him considerably.
Miers was killed off by the far right.
Don't blame her withdrawal on the Democrats.
Karen J. Williams
Age: 54
Graduated from: University of South Carolina Law Center She used to be: A lawyer in private practice in Orangeburg, S.C.
She's now: a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit (appointed 1992)
Her confirmation battle: Williams is a solid conservative without a smoking-gun abortion decision to her credit or debit. She came to the attention of the right when she wrote a decision in 1999 scrapping the Miranda warning for criminal suspects (the Supreme Court reversed her 7 to 2). Since then, she has urged the courts to show broad deference to the president's war powers and rejected the notion that the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance means that the pledge shouldn't be recited in public school. Both stances are sure to please Bush's base. Not much here for anyone else.
I'm hoping for Edith Jones.
This is the same short list that was listed before Roberts but Bush chose stealth candidate(and probably liberal to be) Roberts.
Bush is not a conservative. Bush is a Republican, but Bush is NOT a conservative. Do not expect a Constitutionalist/originalist/constructionist true conservative to be appointed by Bush, because Bush is not a conservative.
When will most Republican activists realize that Bush is NOT a conservative?
My prediction is that his next pick will be Edith Jones.
I believe Sykes will get a closer look from W this time around. the Dean of the Marquette University Law School, who is very familiar with her, said he believes she will be on the short list, if she hasn't been already.
