We gave our time and money, so when you say he won the election you need to understand that he did it by espousing a conservative agenda. Is it too damn much for us to ask the President to live up to his promises.

I remember the debate here during the 2000 primary. A whole lot of Freepers were not happy with Bush because they thought he was too moderate. They were nervous about the whole "compassionate conservatism" thing. And it was readily acknowledged that he was more of a moderate than was his brother Jeb. We knew all of that in 2000.

This stuff about him going back on all his promises is a load of bunk. Aside from CFR and steel tariffs, we basically got exactly what we elected. Was "No Child Left Behind" something that we shouldn't have expected? He pretty much campaigned on that. And he told us he'd do prescription drug coverage as well. Again, none of that was a surprise, so to say he campaigned as a "conservative" and that he hasn't "lived up to his promises" is not accurate

In 2000, we were so terrified of the prospect of the CLinton legacy being continued by Gore that we valued electability over conservatism. In 2004, we had to go with the sitting President, and valued his position on the war. And that was after he failed to veto CFR, expanded the Department of Education, etc.

I'm not saying that we were right to have supported a moderate. I'm just saying that accusing the guy of going back on his promises is bogus.

A caller to Laura Ingraham's radio show just brought up a great point. Will President Bush now nominate a verifiable judicial conservative or will he be angry at "us" (the base that didn't support Miers) and start meeting with Chuck Schumer and whoever to get their insight on whom to nominate?

Doubt it. I've been suspecting for about a week that this whole nomination was a red herring, and that's coming from a Miers supporter. I think Bush didn't expect to get her in, but knew that it would be harder for the dems to oppose two of his nominees. So he used a decoy to draw the worst of the dems fire. Once again, Bush is proving himself to be a master political operator. This time him and Rove outdid themselves so much that even many of Bush's supporters were fooled, to say nothing of his opponents. If that's true, then that's M4D politicking skillz.

I vote for Janice Rogers Brown or Priscilla Owen. And not because they're women. But because they're good justices.

Wow. Thanks for the link. Hadn't seen that. I'm glad she was withdrawn. Let's hope we see Brown or Owens sent up. It's time to make clear what conservatives stand for, and Bush should not be afraid to lay it out there. Reagan did.. Bush can if he chooses to, but won't if he doesn't believe it will help HIM. Conservatives left in the Senate need to hold strong for the howling jackals that have highjacked this country. Their interests are not for Americans nor the rule of law WE believe in. Nor the nation who has sacrificed hundreds of thousands of lives for. Conservatives stand strong. Stand up. Fight back.. Take the fight TO THE ENEMY of this country. The are seated before us and we have a clear view of their intentions. They are for the power of government over the people. Do NOT let this next nomination go without a clear message to all electeds that we will not stand for a globalist to finish off the constitution protecting our individual rights. To what laws of the land will American soldier sons and daughters, mothers and fathers return to by next year? A nation whose voice and sovereignty were merely rallying words to fool a nation, at least half a nation still grateful for the vision of it's founders.

Can you name any candidate's close friend or candidate's family member or the candidate him/herself who would back up the assertion that Miers was the only person who wanted such an apparently crappy job as SCOTUS justice? It was a creation of Karl Rove's mind.
