Oh please. The conservative opposition had nothing to do with her brand of Christianity. What planet have you been on?

By doing this, Harriet Miers has proved that she does, indeed, have the President's interests at heart. This is a brave and selfless move, and we should commend her for it.

I didn't HATE Miers.... I didn't know the lady from squat a month ago.
I thought it was a pick made from fear and I still think that. Someone in the White House thought she would be the easy out....its that old "new tone" crap again.
Next pick should not come from a list Harry Reid puts up..
Damn the torpedoes....go for it!

I was talking about compromise among the Republicans & conservatives. The excerpt I copied from the post I comment on was about some factions of conservatism being as hateful toward Pres. Bush as the radical liberals are.
If these people (Bush hating conservatives) don't ease up, the nation will get no supreme court justice worth having.

You've GOT to be kidding! After the things Colter has said about President Bush do you think she'd be welcome anywhere other than at the liberals table?

I guess you missed the part of the argument about "No CRONIES Need Apply".
Hopefully Dubya didn't.

I seem to recall Spector saying that he would 'not block a nominee who opposes abortion?.. I know, I know, how much are Spector's vows worth.

I like Brown, I like Thompson. Heck, there are LOTS of potential nominees I like.
One point: Bush will NOT feel compelled to pick a woman this time. He's done it, it didn't work out. Maybe Brown, maybe another white male. He needs another Roberts....whether he/she wears pants or not.

Maybe now, GW will do more consulting of the CONSERVATIVE BASE Senators than the liberal/left-leaning Dem Senators. Maybe...just maybe.

Now Bush [tried to] has been completely undermined [himself] for the rest of his term. [But if he nominates a true strict constructionist to replace Meirs, and closes our borders, he will quickly regain control of his presidency and all of his lost popularity, if not more.]I corrected the errors in your statement.

"Just remember most of the people who opposed Miers were the same who opposed Roberts and oppose everything the Preisdent does. They hate him just as much as the kook left does which is why they sound more and more like them every day."
So 45% of FR opposed Roberts and only 32% were in favor of him? Interesting. Look most of the strongest opposition to Miers came from people who have worked hard to get this President into office, and to support his agenda. Opposing a President on an issue does not mean you "hate him." That is childish rhetoric and sounds like something a left winger would say.
Most of us on here who opposed Miers are people who naturally will support the President on an issue, who voted for him (and in my case volunteered countless hours for him), and who give him the benifit of the doubt. We felt betrayed by the nomination and felt it to be a huge missed opportunity. He made a mistake and is human. He's lucky enough to get a do-over and if he makes a strong pick, the people who were disapointed in the Miers pick will go to war for him.
To: rightinthemiddle
This may be a time for all the BushBashers to put their money where there fingers are. If W nominates a real conservative, we'd better pull together.
Just give us that nominee!
To: Pharmboy
when you dropped me off at that diner after the game sunday, some guy came in and ordered a taylor egg sandwich. weird.
To: Rudder; COEXERJ145
Just remember most of the people who opposed Miers were the same who opposed Roberts and oppose everything the Preisdent does. Oh...okay, I must have been asleep when there was such a "commotion" over Roberts. And I still haven't met anyone in FR that's been against Miers and has "opposed everything" the President does.
To: Guenevere
I agree. I hope that Rush Limbaugh doesn't expect me to listen to his show or buy any of his books, because I won't be. I have a long list of these conservatives who make money on TV and radio, who have been savaging this President since Katrina. And Krauthammer and Ingraham are on it. They won't be seeing any revenue from this household.
And David Frum ought to go back to Canada.
To: jennyjenny
Well, there should be a bunch on happy people on this board today. I'm positively giddy. I'm also grateful to Ms. Miers for her courageous act.
