Did you see me say anything about legitimate disagreement?

You never saw me defend her; all I wanted was an up or down vote, just like I did with Janice Rogers Brown. If she made a fool of herself, so be it.

Judges are a big deal to me, too, Rodney; but don't count on getting a good one. And don't count on the Senate GOPers to do the right thing.

You were just telling ME yesterday that I was going to "kill" the GOP?

And you were telling me this is the "new" GOP, remember?

And I'm simply saying I'm not going to be part of a party that is no different that liberals when it comes to destroying people.

I'll do what you all always say: just not vote for POTUS.

There surely is not one candidate I'd support in 2008.

I sure as hell won't vote for McCain or Hagel or any of the others who have been named.

Well, we'll see. I think we could easily get someone like Roberts, who I prefer to Meirs. Also, I think it would be good for the party for Brown or Lutting to be put up, even if they lose in the Senate. If there is one thing that the party needs right now with 2006 looming, it is a good square off between our basic American values and the looniness of Kennedy and Schumer.

Wow talk about shill. Sorry, it was the conservative right that came out en masse to get this man re-elected. We did so while being told over and over again that is was important "now more than ever" that we do this. That if we did we would get conservative judges on the SCOTUS, and that was the only way. If you choose to put your allegiance behind the letter "R", and that alone you are a fool. No need to cry and point fingers at us, you'll once again be begging for us to win you another election down the road.

Good question. Sad but true but the president can only get through what the Gang will accept.

Call the bluff. Put the Gang in the corner along with all the red state Democrats. Dare them to block a highly qualified strict constructionist.

To be fair, I don't say that much, I reluctantly vote for the GOP.

There surely is not one candidate I'd support in 2008.

Me neither right now. My hope is that somehow Santorum survives his Senate election and goes on to run for President. I think Mark Sanford would be a good choice too.

I sure as hell won't vote for McCain or Hagel or any of the others who have been named.

Me neither. I would rather vote Libertarian or that Palooka guy.

I'm asking you this in all sincerity now: (and I do agree with that premise)

But can you tell me exactly how you think that will be construed in the MSM?

His staff definitely reads this site. When I went to his first BBQ here in Norman, one of his main aides found out I was the one posting for him on FR as they had been reading what I posted in his support. They definitely check out this site.

Dr. Coburn and his staff are AWESOME!

I think we should think outside the box - a former public servant who is conservative and a former member of Congress... they don't like rejecting their own.

Personnally, I'd love to see JRB but Bush likely won't do it. Owen, Clement, Jones, Sykes all stand a better chance IMHO. It won't be Gonzalez - people need to put aside that fear.

Why not Lynn Cheney? Don Nickles? Dan Coats? Anybody know a younger conservative who retired from public life that could be enticed back in? (No thanks, Speaker Gingrich doesn't have the votes). I still like the Santorum option.
We need a young female Bret Schundler.

Makes you wonder doesn't it? Why does it have to be a woman -- why not the best person -- that is truly equal rights!

My 'family' does not destroy people with false charges.

My 'family' does not condemn a person without a trial.

My 'family' believes in the Constitution.

THIS is not my family, Jeff. At least not the people who have participated in this lynching.

It doesn't even matter whether or not the woman was qualified. She was denied her rights.

My 'family' would never do such a despicable thing.

In all likelihood Santorum is going to lose his re-election bid; Casey has fooled the voters into believing he is pro-life and NARAL is shrewdly giving him a "pass."

The unions will mobilize against Rick as never before in history.

As long as we are going to lose the seat, get Rick on the USSC for life.

Well, it's hard to say. But don't forget, during the Thomas hearings, the majority of the people supported Thomas. It was only a few years of media revisionism that made it look like everybody thought he shouldn't get on.

My guess is that if the person comes off as a real intellectual heavyweight, without any really off the wall speeches, that the person will have a greater than 50% poll rating in the public. That can only help a party with much lower poll ratings, no matter what the media says. So, this means no Janice Rogers Brown, but it could be any one of the other big conservative names.

And if Justice O'Connor agrees to stay until the end of the term next June, then the decisions will be made with her votes. So rather than have a new conservative justice that the president trusts, the conservatives are jumping for joy at the prospect of having decisions with O'Connor being the swing vote.

Yeah, but I think it's unwarranted. Santorum is just trying to survive this election. If a Senator has 6 years, I don't mind 1 of them being a little wishy washy if he is great the other 5. That's much better than most Senators.

Santorum would never get nominated for the same reason Edith Jones would never get nominated.

They have both called for overturning Roe v. Wade.
