Strawmen. The opposition was based on the total lack of constructionist credentials and the conflicts of interest inherent in the nomination.

When you get honest with yourself, then we can talk. That may be what YOUR own opposition was based on, but others dissed her education, her looks, her intelligence, her career in corporate law, even -- as you can see on this very thread -- her sexuality. I have seen people on these threads call her a pig. I saved that particular post somewhere. I have to get to work now, but later will find that post and send it to you.

Then you can tell me again how the opposition was based only on her supposed lack of credentials.

You blasted me then as having "no common sense" and lacking basic facility with words.

You can't even gloat without lying.

You said: "It's more like 95% that she'll be withdrawn. Common sense tells you as much."--Deo et Patria

And I said: "So, if she's not withdrawn, will you admit to not having any common sense?"--Howlin

Lying really gives you credibility.

Well, its done now. We need, for the good of the President, the Party and the conservative movement; to move on, clean up, and put on our asbestos PJ's for the Mother of all Battles with the real enemy: those leftist pukes in the Senate who will bring their "A" game when Bush sends up Luttig or Brown or Owens or somebody we KNOW is an originalist.

I vow, from the safety of this keyboard, to walk through internet fire for President Bush if we comes through on this next pick. I'm sure that's tremendous comfort to him. :>

Let me be the first to "second" the suggestion of Fred Thompson. He's a member of their "Senator Club", he's a known conservative, and it would be cool if they played the Law ans Order theme every time he came into the room!

And yet the alleged middle-of-the-roaders went balls-to-the-wall for the leftist Specter over the principled conservative Toomey.

BS.

Again, my sister, you are probably right.

Unfortunately, there were a total of ELEVEN republican senators (with McCain) who were willing to work against any nuclear option. See #823 this thread.

That is an insurmountable obstacle unless God intervenes.

But...would the black community permit the savaging of a smart, successful, black female who was reelected in her own state with a 70+% vote.

"So is your litmus test for a real conservative now somebody who has never been a Democrat, even if they've seen the light?"

You mean like seen the light in their late 40s or 50s? Wow. That's a pretty big light change in the so-called maturity years.

I think when you are offering up a candidate in any high powered position, you want to get what you want. Not depend on someone who's eternal core philosophy for day to day has went 180 degrees in party. Why take a chance? Thank goodness for the conversions, but they are the fans in the stands, not the person on deck.

Oh well; damn the RINOs and the RATs; Full Brown Ahead! 51 votes is a majority in any case.

Yes, but don't just damn the RINOS, remember this treachery to conservatism (after we gave them the chance they begged for) and work to unseat them in the next primary.

Nice selective editing of our exchange, Howlin. No matter, I'm in too good a mood to let you bring me down.

"You have been nasty all along...and now you are being nasty to the freepers that didn't agree with you..."

It's a troll. Play with it or ignore it. Don't argue with it.

Accusations and baseless charges are hateful, evil things to do to a person. It's like framing someone for a crime they didn't commit.

Facts are troubling things. Miers' involvement in IOLTA; her mediocre writing [what little there was of it]; her 1993 speech; her views of "self-determination"; her choice of Janet Reno and Justice Ginsburg as "role models"; her unsuitable answers in her senate meetings; and her general unsuitability to become a justice of the SCOTUS because her background has not prepared her for the rigorous requirements [in the 21st century] of that position ... while not, necessarily a crime [if you discount IOLTA] ... are not baseless accusations.

It's over. Let's move on.

If we are going to be total children and continue to lobby for nicest side...I have to say that regardless of who was meaner in the end, I was on the very first posts when Miers was nominated, and the Pro-Miers side was immediately condescending, dismissive, and began the namecalling. One need only do a search for the first threads. Any of us who simply voiced doubts, particularly when Reid seemed happy, were called the Donner Party, DU trolls, traitors, closet liberals, and a host of more personal insults. We were also all dismissed as false conservatives, extremists (strangely inconsistent, I know), and despite our obvious numbers we were marginalized as libertarian-never-for-Bush naysayers which was erroneous and disingenuous.

So anyway, here we are. We all called each other names. Waahhhh.

"She may have been treated unfairly IN THE BEGINNING,..."

***

No, I think Attorney Miers was mistreated even up until she bowed out. I wasn't referring merely to FR, but to all the bullchip in the media (mainstream AND Fox), on blogs, websites and just about everywhere else. I'm not saying EVERYONE treated her unfairly, but a lot more than I would have ordinarily expected. Legitimate concerns? Ok. But this was a smear campaign from beginning to end. And I don't think Attorney Miers deserved that. No one does.

Thank you for your reply!

As long as most Christians identify themselves as Republican they will hold their elected representatives to a much a higher moral standard. When a Republican is suspected of immoral conduct or not playing nice (such as Richard Nixon or Gov. Ryan in Illinois) – the voters simply boycott the elections and the Democrats and moral relativism win.

Boycotting makes no sense because it opens the door to darkness, but that’s the way it is – so yes, the Republican senators must always “play nice”.

Just like I won't forget the way Kristol, Coulter, Ingraham, Frum, Will and others have just been NASTY towards her...with no modicum of respect...

I think that even if Bush nominates a Luttig or Janice Rogers Brown that SOME of the more "nasty" freepers want, and who I like also...

I won't be inclined to forget some of the hatefulness towards other freepers during this so-called debate.

How right you are on all accounts. J.R.B was always my first choice. Miers deserved to have her hearing. All the nasty things that have been said about her I will have a hard time putting behind me.

Some FReepers won't be happy with any choice Bush makes, I agree.

Turn this into a conservative vs. liberal dog fight. Like it should be.

I don't think Dubya had the stomach for a dogfight before...but he damn sure better have one now!

It will be the only way to draw out the scumbag Dems and show their true colors.

When this President nominates someone that is a strict constitutionalist, I will be work hard for the nomination.

I did not work either way on this one because IMHO there was not enough knowledge on her until this week to come down firmly on one side or the other and hearings would have told the tale. Her withdrawing tells me she DIDN'T think she could get through the hearings.

I am going to say it again -- this whining about who needs whose votes is dumb -- we need every last vote and support. To do that the President has to nominate someone with a track record of some type we can get behind 100% and work as hard to confirm that person as some did to defeat Miers who BTW was not even close to my first choice and why I was hesitant to jump in the fray without more information.
