And, which Republican woman might they be thinking of
Although she has said she is not interested, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is a top contender for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination. Rice receives 21% among registered Republicans and Republican leaning independents along with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Senator John McCain follows with 19%. Florida Governor Jeb Bush, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Senator George Allen, Senator Sam Brownback, Senator Bill Frist, New York Governor George Pataki, Senator Chuck Hagel, Congressman Tom Tancredo, and Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney trail with single digit support. 17% of Republicans are undecided.

If history is applied, should Rice decide she will run, those numbers would jump and she would become the frontrunner for the nomination. No other exploratory candidate has caught the imagination of the republicans, all languishing in low single digits. 2008 is a long way away, but we all know campaigning really starts in earmest after the midterm election.
It appears neither Giuliani nor McCain needs the hardcore conservative base to win a national election, because of their crossover appeal. Rice would clearly need the conservative base, so I proffer this scenario. If none of the other conservative candidates (Brownback, Allen, et al) catch fire with the public, be prepared to if you do not want Giuliani or McCain, to rally around Rice in the primaries, she may be your only viable option.
With all her denials of not running, she sure seems to be making a lot of get acquainted appearances. Even her denial has changed from a definitve "I will not run" to a more malleable "I don't 'want' to run".
I think she would make a great president.
Rice/Miers 08!!!!
Which is why you get doctored photos like this:
If she stepped out and said she was the true conservative of the group...it would be hello "Mrs. President".
If Cheney gets indicted over this CIA thing, you might be saying, "Vice President Rice" before you know it...
It would also explain the rumors of her replacing Cheney should he resign in the next couple of weeks because of ill health.
I would LOVE to see Rice run. So far she hasn't seem to show any interest. Guess we will have to wait and see.........
Has she denied not running?
Great news.
Since Rice has all but put to rest the notion that she will run in '08, do you think there will be any "draft Condi" movements that spring up by say, '07?
She talks the talk, but does she walk the walk?
How much does anybody really know about her politically?
She has said repeatedly in about fifty different ways that she's not running. It's the delusions of her fervent supporters--which support she has not solicited and probably doesn't want--that continue to insist that they're not hearing what anyone with a set of functioning ears clearly hears ("I'm not running") that has turned the situation into something of an embarrassment.
And it will get worse quickly. I smell the stench of the beast and her miserable henchpukes behind the attempted Condi smear.
How about this:
The press would be all over her like, well, Vice on Rice.........
I don't see how Rice can run for President in '08 assuming she is still Secretary of State. Now if Cheney resigns and Bush names her as VP, all bets are off and she is definitely the GOP front runner.
Everything looks better from a distance.
Ms Rice is a Clinton appointee and is probably the same kind of mushy conservative that Bush has turned out to be. Maybe worse if she got into power.
We need to quit worrying about Hitlery. The woman is a lightning rod for hate.
We need a true conservative to represent the party this time around.
McCain and Gulliani are a couple of liberals. Who cares how they poll to the MSM?
Personally, I would rather have George Allen.
But if it comes down to someone like Giuliani or McCain, then I would HOPE someone like Rice is running.
