Prosecutor Meets With Chief Judge Could Signal That Fitzgerald Is Seeking Extension

WASHINGTON—The federal prosecutor investigating the alleged involvement of White House officials in the leak of a CIA operative's identity spent most of the lunch hour today meeting with the chief judge of the federal district court in the nation's capital, Judge Thomas Hogan.

As reporters massed outside an elevator lobby leading to the grand jury rooms, the special prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, apparently slipped out a back exit to conduct the noontime meeting with Judge Hogan.

Mr. Fitzgerald declined to comment as he and a colleague emerged from the judge's chambers just before 1 p.m.

The prosecutor's visit to the chief judge could signal that Mr. Fitzgerald is seeking to extend the term of the grand jury that has been investigating the leak. Judge Hogan would need to approve any extension to the grand jury's term, which was set to expire on Friday....

Exactly sinkspur....Fitz has nothing!

He is gonna drag this out for political sakes...it looks.

If he asks for an extension...after 22 months of this...or worse...a new grand jury....

then Fitz will go down as a joke.

But after reading that he is still interviewing neighbors of Plame (something he should have done right off the bat), Fitzgerald doesn't look like he's got his act together.

I think Fitzgerald's men were "interviewing" neighbors in order to hide the fact that some official was delivering a letter at the Wilson's back door.

A shell game to fool the MSM.

I agree. If the report is true, he belongs in Aruba. They appreciate this kind of investigation.

Oh boy maybe we can look forward to another month of Chrissy having drool come out of his mouth and Katie Cupie Doll having on air orgasims.

Ya, maybe Christmas will be delayed a month for those two (and all the Lib Bush haters)!!

The fact that Fitzgerald is wanting more time tells me that he has nothing and is worried about spending all this time and money with no one to put in custody. He seems to have more than enough to go after wilson and plame and miller with. I sure hope he isn't trying to create something to charge Libby or Rove with and needs more time to do it, so he has a "fair and balanced" set of indictments. THAT is NOT justice.

Fitzgerald is just asking to be put into the Witness Protection Program, because the Moonbats are going to be after his head after he comes out with no indictments of Administration personnel...

What kind of money is Fitzgerald making at this gig? Enough that he would want to extend it to make even more money?

yes, apparently the good word is that he was frustrated there was no there there but then some of the neighbors gave up the goods and now an extension is required to go after the source of this, Wilson himself.

Your 12 figure appears to be correct, but according to Fox News, the size of this GJ is 18.

Just relaying what's come over the airwaves...

"The fact that the prosecutorial staff stayed in the Grand Jury room for an hour after the GJ adjourned suggests a "What do we do next?" conference."

That would suggest to me that they think they have 1/2 of a crime, and are debating whether to fold up shop or pursue the other half with an extension.

It's a shame you didn't read the parts of those reports that said neighbors were not being interviewed for the first time. Or maybe you did read them, but chose not to remember them because they are inconvenient.

This rumor is flying around Washington. Everyone thought the GJ would return indictments today, but obviously that hasn't happened.

I did. Did he send the FBI back a second time to ask "Well, did you really, really, really not know where Valerie Plame worked?"

I don't think much of this investigation. It looks to be Martha Stewart redux: a gotcha prosecution.

OOOOHH, I like the way you think. That would be pretty darn funny if true.

I actually thought Fitz went to Luskin's office yesterday to personally deliver Rove's target letter; but seeing this report today I think it more likely that Fitz wanted to tell Luskin personally that he was going to seek and extension of the GJ. So I think there were no target letters delivered at all, yesterday or today.
