ABCNEWS TELLS WHITE HOUSE OF 'INDICTMENT' Tue Oct 25 2005 19:08:02 ET

"We have double sourced that the vice president's chief of staff has been indicted," a reporter for ABCNEWS claimed to a White House press spokesman this afternoon.

The White House refused to comment on the claim. The network said they didn't need comment, they were preparing to run with the development on this evening's network news broadcast, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

ABCNEWS claimed to the White House that it had double sourced how an indictment against vice presidential chief of staff I. Lewis Libby was set.

A senior White House source quickly determined ABC was bluffing; the report did not run on the East coast feed of the program.

Developing...

UPDATE

ABC NEWS spokesman Jeff Schneider tells the DRUDGE REPORT: "There is nothing at all true about us having double sourced anything" regarding indictments.

More from Drudge:

CBS’ JOHN ROBERTS: Lawyers familiar with the case think Wednesday is when special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will make known his decision, and that there will be indictments. Supporters say Rove and the vice president’s chief of staff, Scooter Libby, are in legal jeopardy...

Been wondering that since Day One. In my best dreams, it's been a Rovian Plan with Novak kicking it off.

More likely somebody's brain fart that has brought on a completely unneccesary opening for the Left to attack. Scandal-wise, Bush has done a remarkable job (by recent standards). Alas, there are far too many egomaniaces running around the halls of power for anyone to completely control.

IMO, if it turns out that Libby flapped his lips, he should be thrown under the bus without ceremony. Same for anybody else. If it drags out, the Dims have fodder for their 2006 campaign ("Republicans are corrupt, we are the saviors, etc., ad abusem"). If the issue is closed out fast, the Dims will be forced to do what they have been avoiding for many years -- declare their agenda.

LMAO!!
Is this a joke?
"... seems to fret little that he is now tangling simultaneously with the Bush White House and the New York Times, two of the nation's most powerful and privileged institutions."

Who writes these reports? Please tell me this was not a true internal memo?

NYT is reporting Fitzgerald is investigating if Rove was forthcoming about contacts with reporters.

At this point in time

Either this is BS or He must have succumbed to the media blitz and is frantically trying to come up with something at the last minute

Wilson and Plame know it too. There are issues here that the administration can not discuss, even in their defense, because of the international jeopardy. I am betting and have from the beginning that Plame and Wilson were possibly acting as double agents and have vast information as well "as significant wealth, something not quite right here. They outed themselves for protection. Read this article from Vanity Fair, September 2004.

The Wilsons live in the Palisades, an affluent neighborhood of Washington, D.C., on the fringe of Georgetown. In winter, when the trees have no leaves, the back of their house has a stunning view of the Washington Monument. They'd first seen the house in 1998, when it was still being built, and they had instantly fallen in love with it. Even so, Plame took some persuading before they made an offer. "She's very frugal," explains Wilson. "My brother who's in real estate had to fly in from the West Coast and explain that a mortgage could cost less than our rented apartment in the Watergate."

Plame also told Wilson that she'd be moving with him into the new house only as his wife. Records show that Wilson and his second wife, Jacqueline, to whom he was married for 12 years, were divorced in 1998. By the mid-90s, Wilson says, that relationship had pretty much disintegrated. "Separate bedrooms—and I was playing a lot of golf," he says.

He had met Plame in February 1997 at a reception at the Washington home of the Turkish ambassador. He says that when his eyes fell on her from across the room he thought he knew her. He realized as he drew near that he did not—and that it was love at first sight. From that moment on, he says, "she did not let anyone into the conversation, and I did not let anyone into the conversation."

At the time, Wilson was based in Stuttgart, serving as the political adviser to George Joulwan, the U.S. general in charge of the European command; Plame was based in Brussels. Meeting in Paris, London, and Brussels, they got very serious very quickly. On the third or fourth date, he says, they were in the middle of a "heavy make-out" session when she said she had something to tell him. She was very conflicted and very nervous, thinking of everything that had gone into getting her to that point, such as money and training.

She was, she explained, undercover in the C.I.A. "It did nothing to dampen my ardor," he says. "My only question was: Is your name really Valerie?"

I'll bet he asks for a extension......LOL!

He can't find a case, if any or all of this crap is remotely true. They are still fishing????

I guess that is better than indicting a NYT reporter.

Did Fitzgerald send the FBI over or is this something the FBI is doing on its own? If Fitzgerald is behind it, that would indicate he is trying to avoid indictments. If the FBI did it on its own, then it looks like an indictment is forthcoming, but can still be crippled at the last minute if it can be shown that even her neighbor knew about her status at the CIA.

Is there a way that we can label an individual post in a thread with a Barf Alert?

I have been finding it interesting to hear different pundits and talk show hosts express their opinion about whether, if indicted, Rove or Libby should leave or stay...

I believe Rush and Hannity both, have said that they should stay until they have/haven't been found guilty....

I think Brit Hume, Tony Snow...have said they should leave, because they would be "ineffective" while getting ready for a trial...

Has anyone else heard any of talk show hosts..TV hosts say whether they favor Rove/Libby staying or going if indicted???

Also, if anyone can remember hearing about Rush, Hannity, Brit, and Snow...just so I am not saying something wrong...I would appreciate it if you could let me know if you heard what I said they said?? confused, yet???

"...is this something the FBI is doing on its own?"

No way the FBI would do this without the OK of the prosecutor. Fitz would go ballistic if he found out the FBI was out there re-interviewing witnesses at this point behind his back.
