ABCNEWS TELLS WHITE HOUSE OF 'INDICTMENT' Tue Oct 25 2005 19:08:02 ET
"We have double sourced that the vice president's chief of staff has been indicted," a reporter for ABCNEWS claimed to a White House press spokesman this afternoon.
The White House refused to comment on the claim. The network said they didn't need comment, they were preparing to run with the development on this evening's network news broadcast, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
ABCNEWS claimed to the White House that it had double sourced how an indictment against vice presidential chief of staff I. Lewis Libby was set.
A senior White House source quickly determined ABC was bluffing; the report did not run on the East coast feed of the program.
Developing...
UPDATE
ABC NEWS spokesman Jeff Schneider tells the DRUDGE REPORT: "There is nothing at all true about us having double sourced anything" regarding indictments.
More from Drudge:
CBS JOHN ROBERTS: Lawyers familiar with the case think Wednesday is when special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will make known his decision, and that there will be indictments. Supporters say Rove and the vice presidents chief of staff, Scooter Libby, are in legal jeopardy...
Another update from Drudge:
Indictments in CIA leak case about to be handed down
Now thats just gross
Sorry, its way past supper time here.
Its as bad as Zog Sauce!
Has VP Cheney been hurt politically by the CIA/Flame matter?
90% say they will not vote for him again!!!!!
Is Scooter Libby guilty of anything?
90% undecided, they don't know who he is.
I guess MSM has abandoned all attempts at responsible reporting since the Katrina fiasco.
Is it at all possible that Plame went with Wilson on this trip? I ask because I don't know if this question has even been asked.
Another thing that seems odd is that Wilson stated that he saw the Niger forgeries. We all know that can't be the case because the US gov't didn't get the fakes until Oct. 2002...BUT, perhaps Wilson/Plame were in on the fakes or at least had knowledge of their source and what they would say?
He was not..but Fineman was confident that someone was going to get indicted. He said he was certain of that. Then I switched off..just like I did on Chrissy..I have a low tolerance.
What info?
So who's going to charge the leaker?
And up until the very last second that someone is actually indicted or not indicted, the MSN can smear, spin and trash whoever they want. That's why Cheeny's name came up in every news cast/article/editorial today. Just mentioning his name in this context implies some kind of guilt. They don't have to have any facts. Making stuff up is better than facts for them.
Would someone explain Russer's involvement? I am lost there.
That this Grand Jury did not meet today or yesterday.
Tim Russert testified before the Grand Jury since someone told HIM about Plame as well.
Libby supposedly said it was Russert who told him about Wilson's wife being a C.I.A person.
Great summation! LOL

I'm so ready to see the MSM go down in a huge fireball. I'd love to know the "reporter" who tried this little trick. Sounds like they were fishing for target letters. If I were chief of staff I'd pull their White House pass faster than you could say "Dan Rather."
""We have double sourced that the vice president's chief of staff has been indicted," a reporter for ABCNEWS claimed to a White House press spokesman this afternoon. "
So who are their sources? Dailykos and DUmbocratic Underground?
If Fitz is an honest DA, then you are correct.
If he isn't and intends to play to the media, then it really doesn't matter if he gets a conviction. All he needs to do is create the media impression.
With it he destroys any possibilty that Cheney could be drafted to run for the presidency...not that Cheney would have....but we've got to face it, Cheney is the best debater who has ever been on national TV in the presidential sweepstakes. He is absolutely devastating.
This Mark Halperin:
ABCNEWS POLITICAL DIRECTOR MEMO SPARKS CONTROVERSY: BOTH SIDES NOT 'EQUALLY ACCOUNTABLE'
**Exclusive**
An internal memo written by ABCNEWS Political Director Mark Halperin admonishes ABC staff: During coverage of Democrat Kerry and Republican Bush not to "reflexively and artificially hold both sides 'equally' accountable."
The controversial internal memo obtained by DRUDGE, captures Halperin stating how "Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win."
But Halperin claims that Bush is hoping to "win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions."
"The current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done," Halperin writes.
Halperin's claim that ABCNEWS will not "reflexively and artificially hold both sides 'equally' accountable" set off sparks in St. Louis where media players gathered to cover the second presidential debate.
Halperin states the responsibilities of the ABCNEWS staff have "become quite grave."
In August, Halperin declared online: "This is now John Kerry's contest to lose."

Halperin Memo Dated Friday October 8, 2004
It goes without saying that the stakes are getting very high for the country and the campaigns - and our responsibilities become quite grave
I do not want to set off (sp?) and endless colloquy that none of us have time for today - nor do I want to stifle one. Please respond if you feel you can advance the discussion.
The New York Times (Nagourney/Stevenson) and Howard Fineman on the web both make the same point today: the current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done.
Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win.
We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest, but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides "equally" accountable when the facts don't warrant that.
I'm sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Bush efforts to complain about our coverage. This is all part of their efforts to get away with as much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts to win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions.
It's up to Kerry to defend himself, of course. But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the candidates are saying to serve the public interest. Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right.
Thanks.
