NY Times: CIA Leaked Plame's Name
The ultimate source of information identifying Leakgate accuser Valerie Plame as a CIA employee my turn out to be the CIA itself, the New York Times reported Tuesday.
Notes obtained by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald identify then-CIA Director George Tenet as the person who gave up Plame's secret to the White House, with the Times reporting that Tenet tipped Vice President Dick Cheney to her identity.
However the notes - taken by Cheney's chief of staff Lewis Libby - "contain no suggestion that either Mr. Cheney or Mr. Libby knew at the time of Ms. Wilson's undercover status or that her identity was classified."
So far, Tenet has neither confirmed nor denied that he was the original source of the Plamegate leak, with the Times reporting that he was "unavailable for comment."
"But another former senior intelligence official said Mr. Tenet had been interviewed by the special prosecutor and his staff in early 2004, and never appeared before the grand jury."
Mr. Tenet has not talked since then to the prosecutors, the former official told the Times
Clinton's Tenent?
My, my, my!
But under the law cited, she wasn't covert.
or did he?
I give credit to NewsMax for trying but that wouldn't constitute a leak.
All the people involved had the highest security clearances.
What secret? That she used to be an overseas covert agent 6 years before this story broke...
Will the only person on the planet who has not been accused of leaking the name, please raise your hand...
W was dumb to keep Tenet on so long.
No wonder Tenet got the hell out of Dodge................
I haven't been accused........yet.........
Don't be ridiculous. Cheney was clealed to know anything Tenet knew.
She may have been covered under the law even if she weren't cpvert. But the law seems to be irrelevant. Fitzgerald is caught up in the process game.
Perhaps, but more importantly, did the have the requisite Need to Know?
Just because someone has a clearance doesn't mean you can disclose anything of that classificatin to that person. They must also have a legitimate Need to Know the information in connectin with the performance of their duties.
Right, BUT if Tenet knew she was "covert" and didn't tell Cheney - does that put him in some crosshairs?
Yep, the CIA "outing" its "covert" agent. And done by a Democratic appointee. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
After all, she evidently gets to use the CIA as an employment agency for her husband, as well as a means to undermine the war effort, and she's untouchable because, well, she's some sort of CIA "agent."
What I want to know is who authorized Joey's trip. I want to know if his trip to Niger was legal or not. I want to know if the entire operation was undertaken by rogue CIA agents to undermine the war effort. I want to know who they are, and I want to know if they have any ties to Iraq or were receiving kickbacks from the UN Procurement Program.
R-U-S-S-E-R-T
If Tenet did indeed tell Cheney that Plame worked for the CIA, but did not say she was covert, does that mean he broke any laws? Since he was talking to someone WITH clearance?
