Dems Tap Patrick Fitzgerald for Impeachment Probe

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are so pleased with reports that Leakgate prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is about to indict senior White House officials that they want him to lead an impeachment investigation into whether President Bush lied to Congress about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.

"The CIA leak issue is only the tip of the iceberg,” House Judiciary Democrat Jerrold Nadler complains in a message posted to his web site.

In a letter asking the Justice Department to expand the scope of Fitzgerald's investigation, Nadler says: "We now have reason to believe that high crimes may have been committed at the highest level [and] wrongdoing that may have led us to war and imperiled our national security.”

If there is evidence that Bush or Cheney authorized aides to deliberately mislead lawmakers, Nadler told Congressional Quarterly: "That would be an impeachable offense.'"

The Manhattan Democrat is asking Acting Deputy Attorney General Robert McCallum to direct Fitzgerald to probe efforts by the White House to discredit critics of the Iraq war like former Ambassador Joe Wilson. Nadler wants Fitzgerald to determine whether attacks on Wilson were part of a "broader conspiracy knowingly to mislead Congress into authorizing a war."

Even before leaks from Fitzgerald's investigation indicated he planned indictments, Rep. Maurice Hinchey let slip the Democrats' plan to impeach Bush for alleged Iraq war lies.

In quotes picked up by the Ithaca Journal, Hinchey said in August: "My greatest hope is that all of these things will be revealed, they will be revealed in a very direct and legal context, and that in 2006 a Democratic majority will be elected to the House of Representatives, and in February of [2007] impeachment proceedings will begin."

I hope you are wrong, but indictments don't prove guilt.

To the Demonrats, the MSM, and the couch potatoes, indictments DO MEAN GUILT. That is all they are looking for because when the Repub is found not guilty it will not even be published or put on TV.

They can impeach Prime Minister Blair and every other gummit that agreed with us on WMD. Hope the President quits playing pattycake with these traitors.

Very good post...

I don't care how RIGHT someone feels...or non-guilty...with these things in the hands of "humans" who have built in prejudices, NO ONE can be certain that they won't be wrongly indicted.

In this case, just the rumor of indictment has been enough to keep Bush from parts of his agenda, which is their goal, partly.

I just hope that if Rove or any of the others are indicted, that they take a page out of Tom Delay's book on how to handle it!!

Fitzgerald is not a Democrat, surprisingly.

Fitzgerald has many bones to pick with Judith Miller, who once spoiled a Fitzgerald case, trying to nail terrorists posing as a Mideast charity. She implicitly warned them with an interview, even as Fitzgerald was on his way to seize their assets (this happened in Chicago a couple of years ago).

The NYT is screaming like a cursed wraith, with Loud Dowd condemning Miller as an out-of-control incompetent, executive editors not available for comment, or refusing to comment. The stonewall of blame at the NYT has begun.

Howard Dean says something else must be done if Fitzgerald does not indict someone in the Bush administration.

Finally, an Ithaca (the city of evil) Democrat wacko is on the warpath? Ill winds are blowing towards the left, I'd say, from all these indications. If a lib is demanding expanding an investigation, it's likely because nothing is coming from this one.

I don't think this tempest-in-a-teacup is going anywhere. We will see. But the way the NYT is going nuts this weekend, they behave as if they know Miller had nothing substantive, nothing illegal was done, and Wilson is a liar.

"They know d*mn well Bush didn't lie to Congress about Iraq."

Oh, they believe this alright. They are simply wetting themselves right now.

Clintoon, Kerry, Kennedy all stated that Iraq had WMD's, but no one addresses where they went (with help from the Russians through Syria). Would the DUmocrats ask the families of those found in mass graves in Iraq about WMDs? Saddam & Sons were WMDs and we found them (as well as plenty of chemicals and such for dirty bombs).

The "BUSH LIED" crowd don't carry any weight with anyone but the extreme hate-filled commies, and their rants don't win votes (unless they can manufacture enough to cover their losses like they tried in FL 2000; Vote-O-Matic, anyone?).

When the DUmocrats start indicting themselves, I'll pay attention. Sending out a bafoon like Nadler only illustrates their weakness. They are corrupt to the core and should be called on their treason - sooner rather than later.

I agree, but the MSM chews them up when they do, remember 2000 in Florida when several republicans "stormed" the place where they were counting ballots. Our friend Chrissy Matthews and company had a week of talk about the uncontrollable hooligan republicans.

I hope I am wrong too.

and I also hope, if no indictments come about - that the white house takes a page from Delay's book and turns on this to go on offense for a change.

indeed. we can talk about that issue here and on talk radio until we are blue in the face. until the administration makes this case, your point will not be advanced amongst the sheeple.

"Worst of all, convictions aren't even needed in a situation like this. Being indicted is a horrific experience, one that's likely to cost Rove, Libby, or anybody else who is targeted well over a million dollars to defend against. Naturally, while the case is going on the man is incapacitated from doing his job. That incapacitation is just what the DemonRats want, even if there's no conviction. The present WH disorganization shows how destructive that incapacitation can be."

"As a partial aside I can say that, although I oppose the Miers nomination and believe it's dead wrong, I continue wholeheartedly to support President Bush because we've got to win the WOT and defeat the DemonRats. The Miers thing is a family fight, and we must not let it destroy the family."

You are so right. No matter my opinion on Miers, at this point, I don't care.
I cannot stand to watch what they are doing to the President.
What can we do?
I want to support Bush and sink these hate-filled, desperate, pathetic Rats.

While we are at war, you can always count on the Democrats.

So true. . .so sadly, unfortunately true.

It is incredible the level of hate these people sustain and nurture. . .and how desperately they crave power and the lengths they will go to sacrifice our Country to attain it.

Look at the idiot the DNC sent out to make such an outrageous statement. That should tell us something. They are just trying to make the MoveON and DU types think that they really can pull something off that won't fly back in their faces like everything else has. But this will only be a temporary fix as the lefties want blood. I smile at the thought of the leftie idiots wasting the best part of their lives trying to "get Bush".

Delay should file a suit against Ronnie Earl and subpoena all telephone records, travel records, spending accounts, everything they can think of to expose the bastard and his corrupt dealings. Go on the offensive. Remember Patton...."Grab 'em by the nose and kick 'em in the ass".

Have wondered what it takes for these Reubs to do an 'offensive' as a necessary defense.

The above makes total sense; was hoping as well, this might be their 'first response' and wonder why they have not done this already.

Do they not realize the totally corrupted mindset they are up against? Have the Demrat's implanted the Repubs with brain chips? What?

The Demrats have choreographed this debaucle from the beginning; and the Repubs seem to stand/dance in all the right places. . .

I mean. . .How has this Plame/Wilson show played so long?. . .

The truth of the matter could have closed this show before it opened to an audience. . .

Am beginning to think the Repubs need a brain chip. . .Or maybe the Dems have had them already implanted. . .

Good grief; what IS the problem here. . .

ie. . .the truth of OKC still obscure. . .9/11 Commission does 'fiction'. . .'Burglar' walks. . .Delay is indicted. . . Plame/Wilson score. . .Able Danger implodes. ..

Bottom line; why are the Dems getting away with their warped and degraded agenda which can only spell disaster for the future of our Country and why are we letting them. . .

"The Republicans have to quickly get an alternate narrative out. The CIA and MSM tried to discredit a President during a time of war"

Problem is, this is how the whole damn thing got started in the first place.

I think you summed up my concerns very well. It is almost as if the Republicans are afraid they will aggrivate the Dems. Like they are afraid of the dems.

I don't know why, for example, Bush doesn't have a press conference and discuss findings that recently came to light regarding the past handling of flight 800 management, or discuss findings of the Oklahoma City Bombing. Get it out there and let the public see the corruption. Is is Republican decorum or fear are they afraid these issues will affect them also. I don't know. I do know that the dems are on a collision course to try to impeach a decent man and having exposed that hand explicitly, the Republicans need to come out swinging and be merciless to the dems.
