Dems Tap Patrick Fitzgerald for Impeachment Probe

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are so pleased with reports that Leakgate prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is about to indict senior White House officials that they want him to lead an impeachment investigation into whether President Bush lied to Congress about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.

"The CIA leak issue is only the tip of the iceberg,” House Judiciary Democrat Jerrold Nadler complains in a message posted to his web site.

In a letter asking the Justice Department to expand the scope of Fitzgerald's investigation, Nadler says: "We now have reason to believe that high crimes may have been committed at the highest level [and] wrongdoing that may have led us to war and imperiled our national security.”

If there is evidence that Bush or Cheney authorized aides to deliberately mislead lawmakers, Nadler told Congressional Quarterly: "That would be an impeachable offense.'"

The Manhattan Democrat is asking Acting Deputy Attorney General Robert McCallum to direct Fitzgerald to probe efforts by the White House to discredit critics of the Iraq war like former Ambassador Joe Wilson. Nadler wants Fitzgerald to determine whether attacks on Wilson were part of a "broader conspiracy knowingly to mislead Congress into authorizing a war."

Even before leaks from Fitzgerald's investigation indicated he planned indictments, Rep. Maurice Hinchey let slip the Democrats' plan to impeach Bush for alleged Iraq war lies.

In quotes picked up by the Ithaca Journal, Hinchey said in August: "My greatest hope is that all of these things will be revealed, they will be revealed in a very direct and legal context, and that in 2006 a Democratic majority will be elected to the House of Representatives, and in February of [2007] impeachment proceedings will begin."

They despise Bush because he's a CHRISTIAN......PERIOD!

You might be right.  Since he has proven to be no conservative, it's all they have left.

"I just don't think the Dems would be tossing around statements like this if they didn't know the indictments were in the bag."

Really? I would just think they have been smoking their funny stuff again - you know, the grassy stuff that affects your brain.

Let'm try.

billy jeff was the first elected president ever impeached ... hillary may be the first woman president impeached. Democrats will never stop trying to get even with the Republicans for impeaching their corrupt leader billy jeff. It's a shame Republicans don't play hardball with such vindictiveness as do the democrats.

The Dems would so "toss around statements like this" over nothing but their own hopes and desires.

Miller was a "true heroine" and praised highly; now she's garbage. When they lauded her, they didn't know anything at all and I doubt that they know ANYTHING AT ALL about what is really going on now.

Their highs are so very high and their lows so very low, that they all need mass dosages of lithium!

Well, he had a stomach staple job...and lost some of it...

but, he is still hefty.

Right after Katrina hit NO...he went down there with a group of other Congresscritters, and they had a presser.

I will NEVER forget Nadler---he had on a short sleeved plaid shirt, and a hat and big pants...

I thought he looked just like Elmer Fudd!!!

as Rush was saying the other day - the administration was nuts to have appointed a special counsel for this incident. the idea that you can "trust" anyone in DC to conduct an honest investigation is crazy, especially given the secret nature of grand jury proceedings - you can't.

Fitz doesn't know that indictments are in the bag, he hasn't decided if he's going to ask the jury per 6(e) if they want to issue a bill. Remember, the dems are getting their licks while people are still talking about this.

The law is on Libby and Rove's side.

This, folks, just turned the tide. This is a classic mistake.

You will now see conservatives circle the wagons and stand with Bush. Expect an uptick in approval ratings in the next data, and a trend upward to continue all way back to 50+.

A year is an eternity. They just lost all hope of a Dem majority in the House.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the one indicted was Joe Wilson? Here's a guy that's lied all over the place, and yet he never gets called on it.

Clarice Feldman at The American Thinker had a great article on this dated October 13th, saying Judith Miller evidently had discussions with Libby not only about "Flame", but also regarding "Iraqi efforts to buy uranium" (it was right there in her subpeona requiring her to answer questions about it, for all to read, which the MSM failed to do).

So the Fitzgerald grand jury has now obviously taken up the issue of the Wilson trip to Niger, and possibly the forged documents the CIA was baiting the Bush administration with to use as the basis for war (which they wisely refused to bite), then debunk them after it started to politically injure the Bush White House.

Any thoughts, anyone?
