Drive-by Suspect Gets Five Years in Different Case (WI Gang Bangers)

One of the dozen young people charged in a drive-by shooting in Oregon in August was sentenced to prison for five years Friday for viciously beating a man at a Madison apartment three years ago.

Paul Mey, who prosecutors say was one of the organizers of the Aug. 9 shooting that left three people injured, was still on probation for the 2002 conviction for substantial battery and that probation was revoked and he was sent to prison Friday.

In addition to the prison sentence, Mey must serve five years of extended supervision when he is released.

Mey and a group of friends invaded a Main Street apartment in 2002 after one of their friends had been thrown out of a party. When they crashed the party, they found the guy they thought was responsible for roughing up their friend, and pistol whipped and beat him. Mey used a steel pipe to pummel the man.

Friday's sentence, as his attorney pointed out, pales to what Mey may receive if he is convicted of the three counts of attempted murder and other charges he faces for the drive-by shooting. He faces a total of 269 years on those charges.

The motive for the drive-by shooting became a little clearer, if Mey's statements to probation and parole agent Brenda Stacey can be believed.

Mey told Stacey he was a member of a division of the Los Angeles-based Bloods.

Earlier this year a man Mey described as one of the national leaders of the Bloods, Som Bhot La, decided to stay with Mey in Madison for a while. While here La, known in local circles as "Fat Boi," had $7,000 stolen from him and he blamed Mey's brother and cousin, both of whom are members of the rival Crips, for the theft. He also blamed Paul Mey since it was his home in which Fat Boi was staying when the money disappeared.

Mey went on to tell Stacey that Fat Boi suddenly left his residence and gave him a week to come up with $7,000 to replace the money that had been stolen. Fat Boi had earlier bought Mey a suit to wear to his sister's wedding and before leaving he pinned an ominous note to it saying "you can keep your suit for your man's wake."

That was on Aug. 6 and was followed by other threats, Mey said. On Aug. 9, he and his brother and other members of the Crips gang met to decide what to do about the rival Bloods. Mey told Stacey that the Crips "made the decision to get them instead of looking over our shoulders," and he went along with the Crips to do the job because he wanted to kill "Peanut," or Alex Goldsby, also a member of the Bloods.

Guns were purchased, with part of the stolen $7,000, a plan was hatched and on Aug. 9 they invaded the home in Oregon where they thought Fat Boi and Peanut would be. Two car loads of armed men leaped out shooting but neither Fat Boi nor Peanut was shot.

Wounded in the fusillade - in which police say at least 29 shots were fired - were Samol Um, 21, his brother Chamrouen, 20, and Kimrien Chham, 20.

All of those allegedly involved in the shooting, including Paul Mey, have entered not guilty pleas and their cases are pending.

The best way to combat these A-holes? Shoot back. Sure, they don't give a crap about the lives of other people, but when it comes to their own, watch them run like scared rabbits.

Our Chief of Police is against private citizens owning guns and actively works against concealed carry legislation, so the only ones armed in Cow Town (aside from me) are the criminals imported from the Madison area. We're ten miles south of Madison and they're moving south fast...

Guess who I'll be "actively working against" next election cycle? ;)

"Mey told Stacey he was a member of a division of the Los Angeles-based Bloods."

Hey, as long as we tolerate the existence of these gangs, this stuff is going to happen.
