Fox News: Possible Miers Withdrawal? WH Reaching Out to Conservative Leaders for 'Plan B'
Fox & Friends Weekend
Posted on 10/22/2005 4:11:56 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest
Though not giving it much more than 'rumor' treatment, on Fox & Friends Weekend it was just reported that the White House is reaching out to GOP senators as to their recommendations for 'Plan B' in the event Miers is withdrawn.
One of the F&F hosts clarifed that according to the information Fox has received, it is not WH aides who are doing the outreach directly, but conservative surrogates.

Am I the only person who heard Tony Snow mention that Janice Brown many of the others we conservatives prefer wrote President Bush that they did not want to be considered for the supereme court nomination because they didn't want go through all the mud that the Democrats would put them through? That rumor was floated too - all of the other female candidates were either unwilling to go through the process, or were disqualified on background check.
In other words, goes the rumor, Miers is IN FACT, the best female SCOTUS jurist available, period.
I think the rumor is a scare tactic, aimed to get you to take what is in hand becuase what is under the other cups is worse. No better, it is an admission that the GOP is unwilling to fight against the politics of personal destruction waged by the DEMs.

I hope he nominates Alberto Gonzales and very publicly reminds the Federalist Society that they are not president, he is.Do you object to citizens, including members of the Federalist Society, exercising their First Amendment right "to petition the government for a redress of grievances"?

A true conservative couldn't get through this senate.
The last time the GOP held more seats than they do now in the Senate was the 71st Congress from 1929-1931.
We got Rehnquist with a Democrat majority of 54, Scalia with a GOP majority of 53, and Thomas with a Democrat majority of 56.
I repeat: Thomas was confirmed in a Senate with a Democrat majority of 56.
All this talk about what we "can't do" is a cop-out from Republicans who are afraid of a little controversy.
They need to learn, and learn quick: Those who are afraid to exercise power soon lose it.
To hell with the Democrats, filibuster be damned!
So let President Bush make history as the first President ever to see his judicial nominee filibustered.
It would be a stain on the Democrats more shameful than Bork. Let them do it for all posterity!

All anyone needs to know about Miers is that she was Andrew Card's pick. Anyone who knows anything about this administration knows that he is a New England liberal fifth columnist in the administration who has always been the little devil whispering in W's ear. Whenever this administration stumbles into liberal territory you can usually find Card's fingerprints all over it. This nominee is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG on every level. Please call every Senator you can think of. If she gets to hearings the political damage for Republicans will be immeasurably worse.

"You need 60 votes to have a majority in the senate. We don't have those votes thus we are at the mercy of Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer." Last time I looked, 51 was a majority of a body of 100 members. That's all that is needed to pass the "limitation of debate on judicial nominees" (aka "nuclear option").
What is really needed is a Senate majority leader who will actually enforce party discipline to whip the damned RINOs into line.
Unfortunately, the Republican congressional leadership appears to suffer from a severe shortage of balls and spines.

MSNBC now reporting the Wash Times wishful thinking piece about Miers.
LOL! On stories MSNBC wouldn't touch a mention of any other Wash Times story with a 10 ft. pole.

Aren't you going to look like an ass if this pans out no matter what?

then the White House will have been placed into a position of the Conservatives' own making..You gotta be joking.
This was the White House's doing all the way.
Do you really believe it was conservatives behind the scenes pushing Miers?
The frustrating thing is that this whole thing was so unnecessary. The WH thought itwas being clever, but shot itself in the foot, if not higher up the legs.

MSNBC wouldn't touch a mention of any other Wash Times story with a 10 ft. pole.True, and politics do make strange bedfellows as the Miers nomination has brought together liberals with rock-ribbed conservatives.

Well, we'll just have to go with a man then.

This might be a low blow, but Bush was also very confident in finding stockpiles of WMD's in Iraq. Low blow? Not sure about that, but your statementment certainly makes anything else you have to say completely irrelevant.

Well you are the expert in that Laz, since you have so much real life experience in that.Comeback Critique: I found his response quite juvenile, more appropriate to a 2nd-grade playground. The childish "I know you are but what am I" response is a favorite of Dane's, but it is overused and ineffectual. I'd have to say that this performance ranks right up there with Geraldo's opening of Al Capone's vault: Disappointing and empty. -- Lazamataz, Forum Poster's Magazine, November 2005 issue.

The anti-Miers forces want her withdrawn because they are afraid that if she goes in front of the committee, she might be *gasp* good.Keep dreaming the impossible dream.
To: Dane
Maybe that should tell you . . . that maybe these [anti-Miers] "conservatives" aren't rock ribbed.Right. Robert Bork, Rush Limbaugh, the WSJ editors, Sean Hannity, George Will et. al are just a bunch of devious liberals in disguise. The true conservatives are those favoring ABA lifers who promote affirmative action quotas.

Comeback Critique: I found his response quite juvenile, LOL! The above is very rich in irony.

John Roberts appears to be pretty darn conservative. He got through just fine. And he was probably the best qualified candidate to be nominated in the past fifty years.
He had 25 years experience dealing with the cases that Miers is doing a three week crash course to learn the basics of. He appeared before the court more times than Miers has even considered a constitutional issue. His law clerks are better qualified for this position than Miers.
