Two white men were being questioned Friday after an unidentified man claimed to have a suspicious device in his car close to the U.S. Capitol.
Police cordoned off several streets near where the gray 2005 Chevy Impala was parked on the corner of First Street and Constitution Ave., N.W. That's very close to the Senate offices.
Brian Doyle, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, said hazardous materials teams had been dispatched to the site. "We don't know if it's an explosive device," he said.
There were no immediate details available on how the suspicious vehicle came to the attention of police. The Capitol had not been evacuated one hour and 20 minutes after the incident was first reported.

"Two white men"? What's up with that?
If they were anything but white, their race wouldn't be mentioned.
"Via Ch 7 in Boston: According to WTOP, someone in the car, an Impala, stopped to ask for directions to a Senator's office. Someone else in the car said "I hope you don't search my car like they did in Mexico"."

So probably nothing. Bigger story is the silly huge hat the police spokesgirl is wearing.
Oh, they can classify white men. Any OTHER race/ethnicity is strictly verboten.
Not surprising. They're the only racial group not protected by PC. At least they weren't driving an SUV!
Yeah, this is great reporting; well written. Two men being questioned because another reported he had a suspicious device in his car? Why wouldn't they question the man who said he had the suspicious device?
Must be MoveOn, looking to find a new way to reach "the people".
The racist mainstream media makes me sick. I'm a white man and proud of the color of my skin.
Ongoing situation.
They're about to "render the bomb safe" -- waiting for tthem to blow up the suspicious package any minute.
"Looking for any other packages..." per police.
"Two white men"
?
"There were no immediate details available on how the suspicious vehicle came to the attention of police. "
Maybe
"an unidentified man claimed to have a suspicious device in his car close to the U.S. Capitol"
had something to do with it? I'm telling ya this is top notch journalism - impeccible logic
Probably nothing? Are you watching TV?
Are we not supposed to be talking about this? 90% of these comments are jokes.
They're about to blow up the package and they're looking for more explosives with police dogs.
"I'm a white man and proud of the color of my skin."
I don't know. Being proud of the color of your skin seems pretty silly to me, whatever that color might be. You had nothing to do with it, so what, exactly, are you proud of.
I can see being proud of some accomplishment, some honor you have recieved for your accomplishments, or even proud of your family, since you had something to do with those.
But...the color of your skin? What's to be proud of?
99.99% probability that this will all turn out to be nothing, like so many that have taken place before, and happen every single day somewhere in this country.
Much to the disappointment of our drama queens.
Yup I posted that--heard it on WHDH-TV 7 in Boston. Then switched to Fox News and am monitoring them now. Bomb squad member now must have keys to car as he's rolling down the windows (elec. windows), looking in car..."80 levels of Kevlar on his suit". They have no way on knowing if the bomb might be in engine, trunk, etc.
This sounds more like someone seeking attention. Terrorists don't announce that they have a bomb or suspicious package to police.
Moveon DUmmies maybe.
Your right, I feel really stupid right now. I'm not proud, I'm just a dumb ass white guy.
Apparently we all have our roles to play.
Big silly hat alert!
