A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

"My son is near Orlando, too...on the space coast near Patrick AFB where he works." As you know, I lived in Melbourne and area from 1942 to 1952 - 1957 to 1961 - 1969 to 1972 (then Ft. Pierce - later Panama City)
Patrick AFB was during WWII the Banana River Naval Air Station, and what now is the Melbourne Airport was also a Naval Air Station!
Fellows from the latter dated my two older sisters, and were often at our house for holidays/evening get-togethers, singing around the piano while Mom played it - even played board games with "everyone's" little sister..moi - LOL
The fun part was when they were doing their training flights, they just *happened to navigate a course over our house 12 miles out in the country from Melbourne.
It was *mandatory* to rush outside and wave to them as they dived VERY low over the house and waggled their wings..:)

When I went home last Friday, it was a weird sight with tree trunks and limbs lining the streets and only paths to drive through. There were still many up-rooted trees in yards all over town. It will be a looooong time before things look "normal" again. We have enough trees left standing to do it all over again. In addition to 100 MPH wind for 4 or 5 hours, there were 27 tornados in the storm.
But I want to go home. Afternoon! I am so happy to hear you get to go home in a couple of days. Please don't work too hard trying to get things cleaned up when you get back. Know that you are anxious to be home again and get started with the cleanup, but hope you don't overdo it and make yourself sick.

~ ~ ~ Food for Thought ~ ~ ~ A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together
to visit their old University of Notre Dame lecturer.
Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the lecturer went to the kitchen and returned
with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups -
porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain looking and some expensive and exquisite,
telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said:
"If you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up,
leaving behind the plain and cheap ones."
"While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves,
that is the source of your problems and stress.
What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously
went for the better cups and are eyeing each other's cups."
"Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups.
They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change."
"Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it." --

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones." Guilty of that - maybe sorta. Not that I don't like plain, cheap ones - as long as they're not thick-rimmed mugs ... or styrofoam cups. Hi, Maggie - your feast a few posts back sure made me hungry! :)

All - if you are going to be bored tonight, here is an idea; This is new from Google. It's called Google Earth. To really enjoy this new software, you will need to download the program from the Google site. Go to "next", then click on Google Earth. You will be able to view Earth from hundreds of miles in space, then zoom in to see the front door of your home - and more. This is awesome software. Enjoy. dolly
(also FREE)
You have been sent a Google Earth Placemark(tm).
If you have Google Earth installed, you can double-click on the attached Placemark file and it will fly you to a location. If not, you will need to install Google Earth first (available at http://earth.google.com).
Google Earth streams the world over wired and wireless networks enabling users to virtually go anywhere on the planet and see places in photographic detail. This is not like any map you have ever seen. This is a 3D model of the real world, based on real satellite images combined with maps, guides to restaurants, hotels, entertainment, businesses and more. You can zoom from space to street level instantly and then pan or jump from place to place, city to city, even country to country.
Get Google Earth. Put the world in perspective.

Oct. 22 Eat A Pretzel Day
Make A Difference Day
Used Car Day
For me, every day is used car day. (I'd like to think it is also make a difference day, too, but only time will tell!)
But as to pretzels...
Pretzel Logic
I find it somewhat puzzling.
Its curious, you see,
The way that things get twisted round,
And then come back to me.
I lent my friend some pruning shears,
His bushes had grown wild.
They came back looking like two spears!
He blamed it on a child.
I gave my daughter good advice,
Concerning an investment.
Buy low, and then sell high, my dear,
That wasnt her assessment.
The money that would fund her way,
Through college for her books?
She found it much more useful to,
Uh ... supplement her looks.
But, Daddy! I remembered it,
How interest gets compounded.
And I was sure that youd agree,
A girl should be well-rounded!
So I have almost given up,
Those projects, well-intentioned.
Why even that guy that I voted for,
Forgot the things I mentioned.
Ive got just one thing I can try,
Ive always been so poor,
That package from Nigeria,
Will soon be at my door.
