Guns are dangerous. But myths are dangerous, too. Myths about guns are very dangerous, because they lead to bad laws. And bad laws kill people.
"Don't tell me this bill will not make a difference," said President Clinton, who signed the Brady Bill into law.
Sorry. Even the federal government can't say it has made a difference. The Centers for Disease Control did an extensive review of various types of gun control: waiting periods, registration and licensing, and bans on certain firearms. It found that the idea that gun control laws have reduced violent crime is simply a myth.
I wanted to know why the laws weren't working, so I asked the experts. "I'm not going in the store to buy no gun," said one maximum-security inmate in New Jersey. "So, I could care less if they had a background check or not."
"There's guns everywhere," said another inmate. "If you got money, you can get a gun."
Talking to prisoners about guns emphasizes a few key lessons. First, criminals don't obey the law. (That's why we call them "criminals.") Second, no law can repeal the law of supply and demand. If there's money to be made selling something, someone will sell it.
A study funded by the Department of Justice confirmed what the prisoners said. Criminals buy their guns illegally and easily. The study found that what felons fear most is not the police or the prison system, but their fellow citizens, who might be armed. One inmate told me, "When you gonna rob somebody you don't know, it makes it harder because you don't know what to expect out of them."

Too late they already do
When you gonna rob somebody you don't know, it makes it harder because you don't know what to expect out of them
Actually, I want them to KNOW what to expect out of me.
A fact gun-grabbers simply refuse to acknowledge, knowing that it shoots their "arguments" right out of the water.
A knowingly armed society is necessarily polite society.......
Hey Al, you might want to check out this map:
To quote Louis Armstrong: "I think to myself... What a Wonderful World!"
Jack.
We need to get these folks on busting the gun control myths.

I think that we shouldn't need to have laws which let us carry guns. We should have the God-given right to carry guns unless the federal government takes away that right. Because of the 2nd Amendment, the federal and state governments shouldn't limit the right to carry guns.
Chicago is the liberal cesspool. Believe me when I tell you that we downstaters are VERY tired of Chicago 'ruling' over us as they do. The county map of last november's election shows just how much red there is in Illinois outside Chicago. Dick Durbin's time, and Dems in control of the state, is limited ( I hope).
The liberal cesspools are Milwaukee and Madison. The rest of the state is pretty much red.
Incidentally, open carry is legal in Wisconsin but not concealed carry.
The problem is they still arrest you for disturbing the peace if you carry open. Go figure.
BWAAHAHAHAHA! Got Sharpton in a trick question. I love it.
BTW, I'm carrying a concealed gun right now, just like I do every day. Perhaps the Rev. Al should be terrified, but I am not.
Four States Holding to 'No Issue' Handgun Laws (Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, Wisconsin)
I just got back from a deer hunting trip to SC, and nobody blinked at the 9mm (a snake-charmer) on my hip. Agreed - what a wonderful world it would be!
You are exactly correct.
No state is a liberal cess pool, only the big citys within those states.
If Michigan could give Detroit to canada, the crime rate would drop to next to nothing!
What if it were legal in America for adults to carry concealed weapons?
It is legal in the constitutional sense. -- Unfortunately many of our State and local governments operate under the misconception that they can infringe on our right to bear arms by in effect regulating/prohibiting that right.
Most states now have "right to carry" laws.
States/localities should not have the broad power to prohibit our right to carry. States only have a limited 'police power' to reasonably regulate such matters -- as per Alaska's new regulations..

The fact that Connecticut is "Shall Issue" is one of the few things that does my heart good about this state.
You're right. Once we apply for a license we are, in effect, saying that the government has the right to tell us we can or can't.
You would be correct! Wisconsin will probably be the last state to adopt a Right to Carry Law. The bill has been introduced to the State Legislature and been passed by majority, but vetoed by Gov. Jim Doyle in January of last year.
