Court issues warrant for DeLay, sets bail:

AP By William L. Watts

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- A Texas court on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, and set his bail at $10,000 in a routine step before his first court appearance on conspiracy and state money laundering charges, the Associated Press reported. The issuance of the warrant is "a matter of routine and bond will be posted," DeLay attorney Dick DeGuerin told the A.P. The lawyer said DeLay would make his first court appearance Friday morning. DeLay, who remains a member of Congress, relinquished his leadership post last month after being indicted on a charge of conspiring to violate state campaign finance laws. DeLay contends the charges are politically motivated and that he will be vindicated at trial.

For national government reasons, this case should be expedited. It shouldn't linger around for anyone's political advantage.

That's the whole reason for this travesty!

By the way, you got on the right thread! This thread started 7 seconds before the other duplicate thread that will probably be cancelled with a reference to this thread FWIW...

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep Tom DeLay, R-Texas, refused to plead guilty to a misdemeanor that would have allowed him to remain House majority leader, a report said.

DeLay's attorneys Monday disclosed the plea agreement offer from Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, which DeLay rejected before he was indicted on felony money laundering charges, The Washington Post reported.

IIRC, the money-laundering charges would be a felony offense.

It perverts justice for a prosecutor to offer a misdemeanor plea and then indict on a "felony" in order to circumvent the Constitution's prohibition of arrest/harassment of Congressmen.

BTW, I would appreciate any one with the judge's name and actual donation list to post here. I saw the list on another thread a few days ago.

Tom DeLay has been charged with a felony, therefore Article 1 Section 6 does not apply.
