Hussein Faces Tribunal Today In First Trial for Actions in Iraq

From the AP:

SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq, Oct. 18 -- Almost two years after U.S. forces captured a disheveled Saddam Hussein hiding in a hole in the ground on a farm near his home town of Tikrit, the former Iraqi president will appear Wednesday before a five-member panel of his countrymen in the first criminal case brought against him and seven Baath Party associates.

Iraqis blame Hussein for the deaths and torture of hundreds of thousands of citizens during nearly three decades in power. But he will face charges concerning a single incident, the execution of 143 men and boys from the predominantly Shiite Muslim town of Dujail, 35 miles north of the capital.

This man is responsible for the murders of tens of thousands of Iraqi people, and probably as many as one million. Add to this the countless rapes, tortures and brutal oppression of his people and it's a wonder they haven't torn him limb from limb yet.

Yet, I read an AP article earlier that said: "..the world will be watching to see if Iraq's new (leadership) can give him a fair and impartial trial". I'd say this statement was preposterous if I didn't know that the mass media are in bed with Saddam and his ilk.

Even Satan understands that if his kingdom is divided against itself then his evil 'kingdom' on earth will be destroyed, (Mathew 12: 25-26); that's why Saddam and the MSM live undivided in the same 'house', to keep Satan's kingdom strong.

I honestly believe major portions of the MSM would like to see Saddam acquitted, first to show how "fair-minded" the trial is and second, and far more important, to embarrass Bush. These "observers" left the role of objectivity years ago and aren't even pretending anymore.

I will be interested in watching the philosophication* regarding Saddam's trial.

*Democratic spin, in which facts are less important than tangentially related myths.

Saddam trial starts in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Oct. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- The trial of Saddam Hussein and his seven aides or members of the Baath Party started in Baghdad on Wednesday, over charges including crimes against humanity in connection with the Dujail massacre.

The trial got under way shortly after 12:00 p.m. (0900 GMT) when Saddam, who was wearing a suit and accompanied with guards, appeared in the courtroom in the heavily fortified Green Zone, local TV reported.

His aides were wearing traditional Arab clothes. According to TV footage broadcast from the courtroom, Saddam refused to give his name while being asked to answer questions from the panel of five judges led by chief judge Rizgar Mohammed Amin, a Kurd in his late 40s from the northern city of Sulaimaniyah.

"I don't acknowledge either the entity that authorizes you nor the aggression because everything based on falsehood is falsehood," Saddam said, describing himself as the "president of Iraq."

"I don't recognize this court nor the party which appointed it (Americans and new Iraqi government)," defiant Saddam said. "What was built on injustice is invalid," he added, in an apparent challenge to the legitimacy of the court.

Saddam ruled Iraq from 1968 until 2003 when he was toppled by the US-led forces in April 2003 and then captured by US troops in December the same year.

After being kept in US custody for nearly two years, Saddam, 68, faces trials for his alleged crimes against his countrymen during his rule.

If convicted, Saddam would be put to death. Enditem

Freeper F14 Pilot has been keeping track of a few Iranian stories that show they want to ADD to the charges against Hussein.

I've not seen a story about Iran wanting to aid him.

This is one of the threads F14 Pilot posted. He has more.
