Chinese Archaeologists Find Ancient Tombs

Mon Oct 17,11:31 PM ET

BEIJING - Archaeologists have unearthed a 1,700-year-old complex of tombs in eastern China that contain bronze mirrors, porcelains and ancient money, a news report said Tuesday.

The tombs near the port city of Ningbo were uncovered by a forklift operator working at a construction site, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. The report didn't say who was buried in the tombs or how many bodies had been found.

Inscriptions in the tombs indicate they were built in 256 A.D., the report said, citing Ding Youfu, a member of the archaeological team. He said they were the region's best-preserved tombs.

"Figures embodying fish, beasts, dragons, phoenixes and money can be seen in the wall of the grave," Ding said. "They are incredibly refined and clearcut."

Archaeologists plan to excavate an area of 50,000 square feet around the main tomb and expect to find at least five other tombs, said Xie Guoqi, another member of the team.

Did the chinese use BC and AD or is the report just tailored to the European time line?

I'm sure the Chinese use BCE and CE, like other godless people.

The Chinese uses a timeline that is constant from a time when they first started counting time[had a calender] as do the Jews and Arabs and most old society's mostly from a Sumerian calendar, only Christian western timeline is counted from the estimated birth of Jesus, and the time before that - backward. some used a solar calendar, other, like the Egyptians, a lunar based one.

Ok, so 425 AD in the christian time line would be expressed how in the Chinese timeline?

Ahaaa, tough question, check on what year it is in the Chinese calendar and work it out, your question was brobably flippant, but deserve consideration: TIME. What is time?
Well, I don't know, but I know how to measure it: one day = one revolution and one year = one orbit, the Sumerians in the early days measured time in SARS, one SAR= 3600 years
it was on the 29th. sar that the DELUGE took place and that was about 11000 BC or 13000 years ago. the Mesopotamian clearly measured time in Divine time by the passing of NIBERU
that =3600 earth years and so and so on, enough yet?
for additional stuff on time read "WhenTime Began" by Zecharia Sitchin, google sitchin and you find him, have fun

I'm not Godless and I use BCE/CE. What are you talking about?

Thanks, that was interesting. My inital question was that the report indicated 425 BC and I did not think the Chinese used a BC-AD time line so I would assume the organization reporting the find said 3122 and the reporter converted it for the "western world".

To the best of my knowledge the Western World used BC and AD up until the middle of the last century, when "intellectuals" did not want to associate themselves with the Opiate of the People.

In short, it's simply the politically correct way to refer to times before Christ and times in the year of our Lord.

I have no problem with the opiate of the people, I just don't want to have to explicitly endorse Christianity when I use the Gregorian calendar. Jesus is not my Lord, so forgive me if I don't say that the year is Anno Domini 2005.

Well, I appreciate your point, but look how complicated things can get when we embrace PC-speak: In 2005 A.D., St. Patrick's day fell on Thursday, March 17th.

Since I worship neither Thor nor Mars, we need to come up with new names for the day of the week and also re-name calender months to avoid upsetting me.

Seriously, I recognize the historical significance of these names but mostly I stick with them because they are the default for everyone else - I don't invent new terms to make myself more comfortable. I guess I've never been so fragile as to feel threatened by the mention of Thor's name in Thursday.

If you want to, that's fine by me, go on ahead. I don't see what's the problem with each person using whatever is comfortable to him or her. Freedom of choice. Now of course if you rename Thursday, you run the risk of not being understood, but that's your problem, not mine. Not too many people are confused by my use of BCE for BC.

In the event that they are, I explain it to them. What's the big deal?
