Fox TV | 10/17/05 | A Killer Bee

Bottom of 2nd, 1-0 Astro lead, good game with baserunners and a great tag out at the plate by the Cardinal catcher.

Prince Albert's majestic blast...
Majestic blast is exactly what is was. It is good to know that good ol' Busch Stadium will be open for at least one more night!

I think they've called out the fighter jets from Scott AFB to track Albert's blast as it rockets its way over St. Louis just now.

From an outsiders viewpoint a Chicago St Louis world series would be an absolute war and I would look forward to it very much.

Stud players have the tendency to do things like that. And to think he was 0-4 prior....

Having Lidge in the game was the right move. Save situation on Wed. same move. He's got it done all year and you can't be different now. If the Cards do come back to win this(and that is a real possibility)it will be because of what the teams do, not just one player

I would LOVE it! I was born and raised and lived my first 31 years in Chicago, and then for 14 of the past 21 years I've lived in St. Louis!

It was a one run game going into the bottom of the ninth and Houston could have easily sent it into extras but they went three up three down and I think the stros were just as deflated as the fans in the stands. There is a truism in baseball that bad umpire calls....or say bad moments will happen in baseball and it's what you do after them that really counts.

Nothing any of us do has an effect. We can wear dirty underwear as long as our team keeps winning. It doesn't matter. We can eat the same dinner at exactly 6:00pm each night while our team keeps winning. It doesn't matter.

Now, we can blame the manager.

This textbook managing drives me nuts. Keep the setup guy in, if he starts faltering, THEN bring in Lidge. Ozzie Guillen has got the right idea...if it aint broke, dont fix it!

Get a bigger hammer????

"Nolan Ryan has never lost a game when leading after eight innings", I knew we were doomed

Don't you just hate that! Go Astros! I also rememnber the Oilers up 35 to 3 at half time in an AFC championship game. One can never breath easy if one is a Houston sports fan.

I'm not going to blame Gar, the guy who got us this far. Lidge made a critical error, and a very costly one. But it's in the books now, and will be one to remember for both sides. Let this be a reminder never to celebrate before she's all over.

The real question is, can the Astros bounce back after falling from the Empyrean? We are locked in the frozen lake of Cocytus now, the waters made into ice by the mighty winds stirred by Pujol's bat. If we are to see Beatrice again, we must win at Busch, in the glow of the stadium lights and the stars.

Baseball in so many ways is the most heartbreaking of sports.

Yes I searched and found a record of that series, they were up 2 games to 1 and leading going into the 8th. Guess my memory is playing tricks on me. But hey my version makes a much better story.

There is still hope for the Astros, keep your fingers crossed. I was really looking forward to a Yankees Astros world series, I would have loved to see the crowd react to Rodger going back there to play. LOL, it would have been fun to watch. Go Astros!

There's always hope. We've got Roy-O slated for Game 6, and Rajah if necessary for Game 7. Sure, it would have been nice to close out at home, but...what can you do. Besides, this is much more interesting. I expected nothing less than an epic battle with the Cards, and that's what they're giving.

Still, though...GRRRRRRRR. But I'm even starting to feel better already. When that moon shot left the bat of Albert, my heart quailed. It was a fatal arrow. Now the mists of despondency part and I can almost feel the warm embrace of hope again.

Of course there is hope. Even though I said up thread that a St Louis Chicago series would be great I really got caught up in the excitement of the Astros fans in tonights game. In many ways I like new blood in the series instead of the usual suspects. So Florida, Arizona and the Angels winning in recent years were all good for the game imho.

Unfortunately, that's all me naturally aspirated. I'm earning my status as one of the top 5 worst metaphorical writers ever.
