The title should read "Thugs, Gang members, and White Supremacists battle for control of our streets"

The whites left as soon as things started getting out of hand. The thugs and gang members were battling the police

Actually, the ACLU defended the "right" of neo-Nazis to march through a neighborhood that had many Holocaust survivors. That was about 20 years ago. So the "right" of young thugs (who are everything to the ACLU) to torment elderly Jews (who are nothing to the ACLU) is well-established. This latest incident pits white Nazi thugs against mostly black gangs. Since gangs make inner-city life a hellhole for innocent blacks while the stupid neo-Nazi freaks are more of an annoyance (the way dog crap on a sidewalk is an annoyance), the ACLU will side with the more lethal gangs. If, on the other hand, the white supremacists have ties with actual Islamofascist terrorist organizations, then that will put them over the top and the ACLU will side with the white supremacists. Ask yourself who is more dangerous to America or who is more dangerous to innocent people, and you will find who the ACLU will side with.

Everyone knows that the gangs were looking for an excuse to riot and loot. If the mayor had declared "Butterfly Day" or "Be Kind to Kittens Day" someone would have seen that as an excuse to riot and loot. If the gangs had confined themselves to attacking the neo-Nazis, I would have for once favored what the gangs were doing. Instead, they showed themselves to be stupid, opportunistic thugs, just like the skinheads, etc.

Among press-types I've actually heard such things as being considered "racist" even if it accurately describes what took place. You simply cannot say blacks are rioting because it's "racially charged" as in the Watts or Rodney King riots in L.A. They're hyper-sensitive about certain language and phrases due to being neutered by activists.

There WERE a few white anarchists involved in the riots, but the Nazis (white-supremacists, all 15 of them) were sent home:

Violence in North Toledo after Nazi march canceled; mayor declares curfew

TOLEDO--Mayor Jack Ford declared a state of emergency this afternoon following a violent uprising in North Toledo that erupted following an aborted march by a group of Nazis.

He issued a citywide curfew starting at 8 p.m. tonight, tomorrow, and possibly Monday.

Mr. Ford said those protesting were mainly male gang members in their 20s. He said the protests were not triggered by race relations but by gang members with grievances.

"We went to talk to them. Most of them were gang members in full colors," the mayor said. "Their anger was based on some long-standing things but also that we had allowed the [Nazi] walk to occur in the first place."

North Toledo descended into chaos for several hours this afternoon after angry crowds who turned out to protest a planned march by a small group of National Socialist Movement calling themselves "America’s Nazi Party" erupted into violence.

A mob of at least 500 people threw bricks and rocks at police and vehicles, looted a bar at Central and Mulberry and started it on fire, and overturned a car at a North Toledo gas station and burned it. There were reports of minor injuries to police and numerous arrests.

The violence started around noon as police were getting ready to escort about 15 Nazis on a march that was supposed to start at Wilson Park and continue on Mulberry Street and Bronson and Dexter Avenues, ending up back at the park. (get full story at the Toledo Blade)

Yeah, I just went to the ABC site and it makes no sense - - the first paragraph of the story is completely at odds with the headline as well as the sub-headline. I hope it's merely incompetence.
