5 day forecast shows this becoming a hurricane and taking a sharp turn north, towards the Gulf.
I've been planting the winter veggie and flower gardens for the past two weekends. Bad timing for a hurricane.
I thought it was Wilma, then Betty, Barney, Fred, Pebbles and BAm-Bam.......
Aww dang! I have had my fill of hurricanes this year. Enough already!
Just wait for Hurricane Nadine next year! I can already hear all the parody songs.
Darn! Even half a glass of wine will give me a bad headache.

At this point, I am hoping for a tropical depression to skip the coast and plant itself right over north Texas with about 4-5 inches of rain....we are parched..
BUT, considering what happened on the coast last month, and what is happening to the northeast right now...I guess I would rather have to water the yard...

Went to a Bar Mitzvah in Boca this AM, noticed the weird weather, wondered aloud to wife if another storm was making up, checked the NHC site as soon as we got home this evening, was instantly horrified.
Had a similar creepy feeling this afternoon in the garden.

"The depression is expected to move very slowly westward over the very warm waters of the western Caribbean...and within a low shear environment. Both SHIPS and the GFDL suggest that the depression could become a hurricane in a couple of days. In fact...the GFDL makes this cyclone a very intense hurricane over the northwestern Caribbean between Cuba and the Cayman Islands. Strengthening is indicated in the official forecast but not as aggressive as the GFDL...and more along the line of the SHIPS model."

Of course, everyone knows of that TD in the west carib. Time to start up some analysis of the data and forecasts, let's see if we cant hit the nail on the head 120hrs+ out.
Right now, like everyone else, I'm seeing basically a clone of Mitch... only this time it's getting scooped up further north and as a strong Cat. 5, getting sent further east then normal for this time of year. Bulldozing everything from Key West to Jupiter. This is not my personal forecast but that's the feeling I get from the models as of now.
This whole scenario just doesnt look good. The worst thing that could happen is we could get a superstorm like Mitch (which is possible due to the conditions right now), but it getting scooped up and sped away too fast for it to weaken. Remember as well, western Cuba offers little to know help with weakening a storm. It is flat cane-fields and swampland. As well, the area has the warmest water in the Atlantic. As well, storms approaching from the glades side tend to even STRENGTHEN at times if not at least maintaining strength. You saw this with Katrina. The glades offer no real protection.
