Just came back from a meeting to simplify the features of the new Medicare prescription program and listening to some of the questions of feeble-minded citizens. One woman with a Russian accent wanted to know why all the European countries really take care of their elderly and why can't our Government do the same? Mike Fitzpatrick, our new and young Congressman, handled her very well. I wanted to ask her if Europe is so wonderful, why did she come here? And she's probably collecting Social Security without having paid anything into it as well!
But I did stand up, very angry at all the questions of why our Government "can't do more", to say we all need to remember that our Government isn't giving us anything. This is all going to be paid for by our children, our grand children and our great grandchildren. I was so angry I was almost shaking. Mike Fitzpatrick did thank me for that.
Now I have to go to the gym to settle down!
Family PING!!
Kick ass! Yall rock!
Your Mom ROCKS!
Interesting. My wife and I have a recent Russian immigrant living with us. One of the reasons she came to America was so she would be better able to care for herself without relying on government.
All European countries DO NOT take care of the elderly. In some of the countries if you are over a certain age you will be able to get the same medical care you get here at the same age.
Some may provide assisted quick death - but as I understand the system they will NOT expend resources on people who are old.
I wish she had asked why the lady moved here. That burns me up. I'm willing to write off everything I've paid in to the system right now so my kids won't have to worry about SS.
SY- Think bulletinthegun will even say nice things like that about me?
Yeah, remember the thousands that died in France during the heat wave!
No need to be at a meeting of the new Medicare Prescription Program unless one plans on using it.
Am I wrong in assuming that your mother will be going on the plan?
Especially in heat waves!
...cept when it comes to air conditioning, if it gets to be anywhere near 100 degrees they start falling over like pins in a bowling alley. Guess the government booklet about how to fill a tub with cool water and stay in touch with the elderly didn't get delivered that week because of a mail strike eh?
Doogle
I really don't know what she'll do. I'm sure she's doing the smart thing and checking out her options before deciding.
Good for your Mom! It was pretty tough financially taking care of my mom in her final days but she never once asked for the gubmint to step in and we just did as families do; Take care of our own
Most European countries have indirect quick death programs named gun control.
You might have asked her about the 10s of thousands of French elderly who died in the August heat a few years ago while the caring compassionate frenchies were on holiday.
I'm constantly amazed that many of the professional-class immigrants I work with (from all over the world) carp about how bad America is, how evil capitalism is, how they don't get much vacation here, how poor the health care system is here, poor public education, high cost of housing, etc., etc. I want to scream at all of them "then go back home if it's so good there" but I usually politely bite my lip.
I don't think you should handle them with kid-gloves, but be smart about your comments....
Vive whatever the hell they call that wanna be country...
