"Could anyone give me a list of known Conservatives who are supporting this nomination"

Depends on what you mean by "known" conservatives. As I said, the ACLJ unequivocally supports her nomination and their opinions are more important to real conservatives like me who love the Constitution and fight for it's preservation than the opinion of some pundit who gets paid by the word.

I disagree, GW Bush has grown up in elitist circles but decided to settle down in Texas, so has Ms. Meirs, and both have been known to shun elitist soirees.

The caterwalling from the self proclaimed omnipotents in the beltway, IMO, is probably of great humor to them.

"I don't think Kristol really understands Bush OR conservatives to a large degree. He continues to believe his brand of conservatism is best for everyone, when in fact he's often wrong."

Great points and totally agree.

Pat Buchanan is another 1 who has his own brand of conservatism, which he thinks we all should follow. Billy-boy and Patsy need to wake up and smell the coffee - - most of us don't agree with much they have to say; and, quite frankly, it's gotten to the point that I don't even care to hear what they have to say - -which is usually more Bush-bashing. If they are both such 'experts' perhaps they should ask themselves why they don't have more followers. I suggest it's because they both are suffering from delusions of grandeur, and, that they and their beliefs are important in their minds only.

Taking a break from my "Social Stratification" paper to comment. I will probably be ostracized by the FR elite, but so be it. I have been on the GWB ride since 2000, and I am not sorry I have supported him. I have been disapointed in some things, but not enough to turn on him now. Im very sorry, but I am sick to death of the whining over this pick. "W didnt pick the one I wanted so Im taking my toys and going home", seems to be the theme. I believe in my heart, W thinks she is what the Court needs. I dont give a hoot what Kristol or Buchannon think. Nor do I care what the FR elite think. The level of immaturity that has revealed itself since the pick is shameful. No one knows a thing about this nominee, but way too many people on this board and in the MSM think they do. They dont. If you (collective) want to quit the party over Miers, so be it, but quit friggin whining and thinking you are smarter than the one who picked her. If you were smarter, you wouldnt be on this board. There have been many differences displayed on this board since I have been here, but this one takes the cake. I am in wait and see mode, I am trusting our President and that he knows whats best in this case. I refuse to whine or think I know better, because simply put, I dont. And neither does anyone else..

End of rant and awaiting the inevitable flames..

I could probably name some but there's not enought time now. I'm fianlly watching FNC. Still, I read this week of some conservative organizations who have come out for Miers. And, from what I heard on Rush's program, he's questioning but he has not come out against her nomination as some believe.

"she might be very impressive in her Senate hearings!"

What will you learn about her Beliefs? Like Roberts, she will sit there and refuse to answer any questions that one would need to form any opinion of what kind of Justice she would be.

But she will impress you with her performance and you will use that as a basis for her nomination?

And now a word from our real Sponsors of Free Speech

The Men and Women who serve,
and have served, our country
are the ones who make sure that
the Politicans and Judges are free to do their job.

We would not have a US Supreme Court
without the protection of the Military.

Politicans and Judges are safe
because of the Military who protect them.

TEST : Call your Senator or Congressman's office
AFTER 5 PM, or on the weekend.
IF you speak to an actual person, ask who's in charge today?

Now look up the phone number
of your local military base.
Call that number 24/7
and ask the live voice you get
to speak with the person in charge.

Send a Thank You while you enjoy your Freedom also.

Those opposed to the nominee are peeved because Bush is appointing an 'unknown quantity' when there are many 'known quantities' who could have been confirmed.

Two things:

Unknown to whom? To you, sure. To Dubya? Not on your life.

"who could have been confirmed" Probably not, thanks to the gang of 14.

Apprehension is justified. The over-the-top rhetoric by most on the anti-Miers side is not. The accusations of not qualifeid and not intellectual seem to be pulled out of thin air, and I've yet to hear anyone spell out the evidence for such claims, other than she didn't attend the right schools or she's never argued before the high court.

People should just be honest and voice their apprehension. They don't have to pad it with unfounded claims about her lack of qualifications.

"Why should W care about you?"
It is obvious the he does not, which begs the question.

Why should Conservatives support him and the Republican party.

The end result of both questions is that Republicans resume the role they are most qualified to assume, minority party.

People, please. Kelo applied only to the laws in Connecticut.

The Court said that each state ought to make it's own laws regarding eminant domain.

Many states already have laws on the books against taking private property by private entities. Other states are using eminant domain exactly as Connecticut did......Florida, NJ,and who knows how many other states!

The President and the Vice President to name 2.

The Vice President does not have to come out in favour, his position is traditionally that if anything happens to the President he takes over. He does not have to have any opinion it is not expected of him. The position of Vice President is mainly ceremonial. Plus also he is not spinning to his supporter for future Presidential nomination he has made it clear he retires in 2009 at the end of this administration.

However this Vice President is different he made this clear from when he accepted the nomination in 2000 he would not just be window dressing.

He publicly says that there are times when he disagrees with the President in private but at the end of the day GWB is the President so therefore his opinion obviously wins. In these circumstances the Vice President does not give his publicly opinion but in the case where he agree with the President he will. Where he does not he sometimes will use the terminology that this is the President's wish on an issue.

He was quick to jump to the defense of the nomination and said in ten years people will see how good an appointment this was. He did not say as some have suggested it will take 10 years to see this he was IMHO just saying look at her future record.

The VP when supporting the President's marriage amendment has always made that clear it was the President's wish and has not thoroughly endorsed this personally though has never gone as far as to say he is 100 per cent opposed to it.

So when the VP backs the nominee he is doing this from his own view point and no one can doubt looking at his voting record over the years in Congress and his record as Defense Secretary that his is anything but a conservative.

You're right on it as well. Once Buchanan or Kristol have been read, there's not much new coming from them. Kristol has his world view and Buchanan wants to put a fence around the USA. Okay... now what? Not much else once one realizes where these guys are coming from.
