A conservative uproar erupted over President George Bush's recent appointee to the Supreme Court. Bush nominated Harriet Miers to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. But several key Republican senators say she not the best candidate.
MSNBC-TV's Tucker Carlson talks to former judge and Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork about the Harriet Miers' nomination. He says it's, "a disaster on every level" because she has "no experience with constitutional law whatever". The nomination is a "slap in the face" to conservatives.
TUCKER CARLSON, MSNBC HOST: Are you impressed by the presidents choice of Harriet Miers?

Get over it boys. This one is going through.
-------
It will be interesting to see how this goes. I agree it is easy for armchair "experts" to pontificate all day long -- but what actually happens at the end of the day is what matters...nothing else. That is why talk is cheap - only results count.
Cheers!

Yep -- and before we wallow in th comfort of the Reagan years, let's remember Meese, Wed-Tech, James Watt, and the long sleep Ronnie took -- literally squandering his second term.
Reagan was a man of superb vision -- and was extremely lucky in having some extraorinarily talented counsel in Weinberger and Schulz.
However, his second term was a total disaster, domestically, and his Supreme Court choices were abominable.

Is Bork God or something? Well he's old, has a beard, and talks in a stern, deep voice...

Seems like you misread his comment. Go back and read it again. Wait, let me make it easier for you:
"We won't KNOW about Roberts for a year or so, and if he's a bad pick the Republic is over"
So please show us where he claimed that this was the end of the republic? He had a qualifier in there
And also, who says we are "trashing" bush? I guess Rush, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, et all are "trashing bush" -- Right?
Nice try. We are disagreeing with this choice, I have posted plenty of information that causes one to raise an eyebrow.

I have studied her record, what there is of it..
and therin lies the problem - But maybe you can comfort some of us here with examples of what you've learned about her that gives you comfort. The problem is that it's hard to discount the conservative pundits who are up in arms on this pick-and it's their job to know these things. Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, George Will, and many others that FReepers look up to and trust-all saying the same thing - "Bad pick Mr. President."

I cant say the "experience" of all the other judges has done us any good over the years. On this point, I am reluctantly forced to agree.

We won't KNOW about Roberts for a year or so, and if he's a bad pick the Republic is over. Even if Roberts is cut out of the same cloth as Ginsburg, our Republic will endure. It has suffered real agony in the past. Two liberal justices (as if) still couldn't kill it. It just makes our task greater. A comment like that demeans FR.

WRONG. A third support Miers and a quarter oppose. The rest are giving her a chance to voice her answers at the confirmation hearing and are not screaming their heads off in public sounding like Al Gore and Howard Dean.

"Do you approve of Harriet Miers for Supreme Court?"
"Yes 30.2%"
Actually, that's less than a third.

Judge Bork knows what he is talking about. Ms. Miers' nomination needs to go down. He borked her.
I used to respect the man.

Bottom right. HAR!!
Were you ever in the "Who's Who?" You get to make up, er' I mean, write your own profile - no proof required.
Every time I read or see someone talking about doughnuts and M&Ms as qualifications for the SCOTUS I think they are constructing a "Who's Who" entry.

A good number of those 30.2% would support any pick the President made.

It really should be "useless".
