Clinton aides battle Freeh over '60 minutes' book

Under strong pressure from former President Bill Clinton's advisers, CBS's ''60 Minutes'' has agreed to read a statement denying an explosive charge being made on Sunday nght's program by former FBI director Louis Freeh, the WASHINGTON POST reports.

In the statement, Samuel ``Sandy'' Berger, Clinton's national security adviser, challenges Freeh's assertion that Clinton failed to press Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to cooperate with an investigation of the 1996 bombing of Khobar Towers in that country, and used the occasion to ask for a contribution to his presidential library. The Saudis made such a donation last year _ six years after the 1998 meeting.

Berger, who was at the meeting, said: ``The president strongly raised the need for Saudi officials to cooperate with us on the investigation into the attack on Khobar Towers at the time when the FBI was attempting to gain access to the suspects. The president did not raise in any fashion the issue of his library.''

Clinton spokesman Jay Carson said he told CBS's Mike Wallace that he had supportive accounts from five other former officials at the meeting, including those briefed about a private conversation between Clinton and Abdullah.

``The fair journalistic question is why they didn't call and get comments for their story from people who were in the room, such as Sandy Berger, and why they took until Friday afternoon to get that done,'' said Lanny Davis, a former White House lawyer, who tried to persuade ''60 Minutes'' producer Jeff Fager to allow him or another Clinton spokesman to appear on Sunday night's segment.

Carson, who called the Freeh book ``a total work of fiction.''

Excuse me, 'violated conditions of his probation'.

I still have questions about his actions during the 90s: Ruby Ridge and Waco, the promotion of Potts; coverup of OK City bombing; Elian home invasion by FBI fiasco;

And yet...we are all gleefully awaiting his book.

Why doesn't Hillary just pull out some of her stolen FBI files to blackmail him to keep his mouth shut? Oh, wait a minute... he's probably 'clean'. No wonder Clinton referred to him in meetings as "Louis F'n Freeh" (according to the book).

He's guilty. It is not the substance of the evidence, rather the seriousness of the allegation!

Why do dems not live by the same rules they push on others?

"What is it that makes these terrible people so special?"

Hundreds and hundreds of FBI Files.

"The president did not raise in any fashion the issue of his library.''

Check the possible weaselwords...mmmm.... Perhaps "raise" meant lifted up and he said the words while sitting. "in any fashion" meant unfashionably and "the issue" meant an issue of a magazine being put out by the library. Most statements by ex42 have several negating expressions and this one is no different.

It's a p*ss poor legacy if you have to call in the likes of Berger and Lanny Davis to prop it up. I've wondered over the years what happened to Freeh and WHY he who knew so much, chose to stay silent. Too bad he didn't open up about 10 years ago.

This is GREAT! The spin alone will boost 60 Minutes Nielsen ratings off the chart! Perhaps the dim bulb producers at 60 Minutes will remember what ratings are about.......when Conservatives actually used to watch the show. And the comment from a convicted felon, LOL. Priceless.

It just so happens that the documents dealing with this situation have disappeared from the national security archives.Sandy Burglar denies knowing anything about the whereabouts of the documents in question.I suggest they check his leopardskin bikini briefs for clues.

This show hasn't even run yet, and the Clintonista smear machine is running full blast. Should have been kept quiet until Sunday.

Mike Wallace is going to ask Berger for the Clinton response. Berger will reach down into his pants, fondle down around his b*lls for awhile, eventually pull out a crumbled piece of paper and read Bubba's response.

Add me to that answer list. The only thing I can think of is that Socialists are so narcisstic that they truly believe that they know whats best for everyone and want to control everything and everyone. Its like they all have Narcissistic Personality Disorder (which is a mental illness. But then again being a liberal in itself is being mentally ill).

I wonder if the Berger docs are part of this.
The timing of his crime can't be a coincidence.

Do ya think maybe Clinton sent Berger on the National Archives mission at the same time he had spies working at Louie Freeh's publisher?

"Socks" Berger may have to make his statement from a jail cell after speeding over 80 mph in his car.

That is a crime in Virginia punishable by jail time and he is currently on probation. So its clearly a violation of his parole.

Heard the Howie/Wallace bit Friday.
Howie hates Clinton almost more than Fat/Drunk Ted.
Should be a good interview.
Freeh is really straight, so he might not like the questions.
