WASHINGTON Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu chastised the Senate today for working to pass defense legislation while refusing to deal with the immediate needs of victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Landrieu says two-thirds of the 63 (b) billion dollars that Congress already has provided in hurricane relief has not been spent by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Landrieu says Congress should redirect 14-point-seven (b) billion dollars of the money already appropriated to provide health care for evacuees, pay the salaries of public employees, and provide relief and help to public schools, hospitals and small businesses.
And she said lawmakers need to act this week, before Congress leaves for a week-long recess.
Landrieu said the White House offered last night to provide 300 (m) million dollars from the already approved relief funds to help cities like New Orleans pay their policemen, firefighters and other public employees.
But Landrieu said that is not enough.
The Louisiana Democrat took the floor while the Senate was waiting for members to offer amendments to the defense spending bill for fiscal 2006. Her speech also coincided with President Bush's defense of his Iraq policy in a speech to the National Endowment for Democracy.
She went on and on and on about how she was being denied emergency funds and that the Gulf States were essentially having to pay a "higher interest" rate in her mind.
She cannot be trusted with a penny let alone millions.
What an a$$. The rest of the world doen't stop just because Louisianna has troubles. Arrogant egocentric tripe.
Be careful, I've heard that dignified, classy Mary has a mean left hook. No one is safe from her wrath, including the US president.
On the other hand, she is fighting for her constituents......She IS supposed to represent them, right?
Just a thought..........
Hillary also likes to physically beat on men -- unless they fight back. Then, she doesn't.
I love how Rush refers to her "baby fat."
What really pissed me off was her inclusion of Mississippi, Texas, Alabama in her rant this morning as she blamed the republicans for not giving them money for the emergency services needed in those areas. Really it was all about her but to boost her request injecting the other's was to help her case. I guess she thought it would work, it just pissed me off more.
Yeah, she's fighting to repopulate the Ninth Ward so her bought and paid for vote is there come the next election. Without that pocket vote, bought and paid for, LA Dem pols like Katrina Mary and BLANK-O Blanco are toast.
Just like she fought for them when she redirected monies from the levy project to the Port of Iberia? Just a thought.
"she is fighting for her constituents......She IS supposed to represent them, right?"
Not if it's at the expense of the entire nation.
Sen. Landrieu is nothing like Blanco or Nagin. She rants and rambles in an attempt to appear like she's "working for the citizens of her state", that way she can try to take credit come election time. She's a pretty good Senator though -- votes along Republican lines on many issues. Lets not forget how conservative Lousisiana is, even more so now that the state's liberal bastion has been turned upside down.
Don't they need defense protection too?
Measure this infidel for a burka
Gee, is that the same Federal Government you were bad-mouthing on TV? Isn't it amazing they aren't lining up to send you and your corrupt pal pols more money. You are truly stupid, Senator.

Mary Landrieu
Mark Landrieu
Sherri Landrieu
Nagin
Blanco
These people look to be too busy with all their various ventures to complain much about a busy government.....
As a senator, she's suppposed to represent her state. The house represents the citizens. In any case, she is loathe to discuss national security/military issues, which is what the federal government is for,and wants to discuss a nice soft, warm motherly domestic issue, for which the federal government was not intended. And so it is with women(and girly-men)in government.
"Most people know Mary Landrieu as the Senator who from time to time pretends to be a naive school girl, even-though she is pushing 50; let me put it this way, you would not want to see her without her make-up on"
