October 5, 2005 -- THE producer at the center of last year's "Memogate" scandal at CBS News says she was derailed by a vast right-wing conspiracy.
The producer, Mary Mapes, is one of four CBS staffers fired last January in the wake of the scandal.
She is convinced she was the victim of a group of loosely associated Internet bloggers "with a harsh political bent" who pounced on CBS News minutes after the airing of the now-infamous Texas Air National Guard story on "60 Minutes 2" in September 2004...
"Within a few minutes, I was online visiting Websites I had never heard of before: Free Republic, Little Green Footballs, Power Line," writes Mapes...
"They were hard-core, politically angry, hyperconservative sites loaded with vitriol about Dan Rather and CBS."
"This was something else, something new and fundamentally frightening," Mapes writes. "I had never seen this kind of response to any story.
"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad."

In before the birth!
Well, Mary, if you weren't wrong "all the time" to begin with...if you had any facts or measure of context, you wouldnt have anything to worry about would you?
Typical lib...always a victim, but mostly a victim of their own stupidity and absurdity.
We are the Pajamahadeen. And yes, Mary, you should be frightened.
Amazing how anyone around here has the gall to ever question a story by the MSM.
Shame on us for not being sheep!
Liberaleze for "caught redhanded".
right. I wonder if she's heard of drudge?
Somehow she fails to mention the fact that she got caught committing a fraud....
Mary seems to have forgotten the leftwing lathering up over alleged "forgeries" about Niger yellowcake being sold to Saddam Hussein.
Then there's the day the Democrats in Congress voted to de-fund the Cambodian army. That was a good one. Ended up as one of history's greatest mass slaughters ~ 1/3 of the Cambodian people ended up dead.
These people like Mapes and Rather have a lot to account for and today, with the internet, we are ready to make them pay the price every single time.
Eventually, of course, Mapes has to be sent to prison for something, and no doubt we'll find what it is.
It is amazing how these elitists are shocked that everyone does not agree with their liberal viewpoints.
Throw this drama queen a tissue.
"This was something else, something new and fundamentally frightening," Mapes writes. "I had never seen this kind of response to any story.

"...something new and fundamentally frightening."
Egg-sell-ent...egg-sell-ent....
"Within a few minutes, I was online visiting Websites I had never heard of before: Free Republic, Little Green Footballs, Power Line," writes Mapes..."
THIS was her downfall. If she had been in the business for this long and not heard of these sites it is obvious she was a VERY POOR researcher. If you weren't aware of us or little green footballs, by then your were doomed before you put the paper in the typerwriter.
A whining, moaning, groaning liberal who really and truly believes that all of history ended in 1974 - when Nixon resigned.
These people have no idea of what America is like.
the Pajama Patrol thanx mrs Mapes for the kind compliment.
And a silver bug up her a$$...
