I'm not one to normally complain on FR about freedoms that have been lost since the 9/11 attacks.
But...
We talk about the communist country of China and how they don't have free internet access.
Last night I was reading through some threads and started doing some Jihad research and came up with one of Al-Qaeda's web site's called Jihad Media Battalion.
I typed the url www.k-j-i.tk and it said "could not be found"
So I Googled Jihad Media Battalion and came up with katiba.100free.com/default.html
When I went to this site it started to bring up there site but I was then immediately sent to the c.i.a. website which said in the url bar that my I.P. was being logged.
Now this scares me because, not only have I been censored to research against the terrorists that we are fighting, but now I am made to feel as if I am being examined as a criminal now because I was looking at that site.
So it makes me feel like the c.i.a. is wondering and perhaps investigating what my motives were for visiting the site.
Now I, like many, would normally feel grateful that the c.i.a. is ay least intelligent enough to know about the site and we would want them to do there best to find any home grown Jihadist's.
But.
I felt like my freedoms and right to privacy were smashed and that I could be a suspect by the "thought police".
Some other url's that I found through Google are below but I don't want to go research our enemy because it might incriminate me. I have not visited the below links so I have no clue what they are. I am sure they are all Al-Qaeda links.
Use at own risk.

"Also, you might enjoy the company of hairy, Saudi men in you cell. Get used to wearing a toilet paper "hijab" though."
Actually, I was more looking forward to the female interragators "torturing" me by putting panties on my head and taunting me by rubbing their breasts against me. Heck, I'd almost pay for that! ;-)
My dad was investigated by IRS after posting a tax thread.

On FR?
They must be able to because the government can shut down child pron sites. Since I really do not know able the sites listed it is hard to say what they were shut down for. If the sites were used by terrorists to communicate with each other or to recruit new members it seems the government can and should shut them down. If they are just factual sites about terrorists then it might be a problem with censorship. That is a really fine line.
Privacy on the internet does not exist. If you want privacy, chuck your computer out the front door and move to the Mountains of Montana.
There's still plenty of wilderness to get lost in.
Not saying it is fake, just showing the domain name registration info as an fyi.
Yup.
AH ty.
Geesh! That's the first I have heard of that. Did things work out OK? What did your father say?
Well, let's say it didn't go well and now he watches what he posts now-a-days.
Could it be that the CIA doesn't have the budget, manpower or technology to instantly check out every hit on every questionable website so they do the next best thing by capturing user IDs for future checking and then blocking the usage to that website?
IMHO, the CIA and FBI are not perfect, yet that's what many expect to be.
"My dad was investigated by IRS after posting a tax thread."
My Dad was investigated by the IRS after he screwed up on his taxes. I suspect there is a correlation between posting on a tax thread and being investigated by the IRS, but the relationship is not necessarily casual.
Exactly. "Rational" may also vary widely from person to person.
I find it even more amazing that you try to spin what I meant here..I am an American I love my country and my president and I do not believe for one minute that I am trading my liberty for security.. I will go with the liberties we have here any day rather than the liberties other countries have.I have nothing to hide..If there is any chance in the world that our government can catch these animals the I am all for it..
We've seen over the past month the power of data mining in stopping these Jihadists (aka Able Danger.)
So now the CIA has woken up a bit more after realizing that a serious effort, like in Able Danger, could grab up these terrorists before they do something.
I think its great that they are logging attempts to get into Jihadists websites. The NSA has been monitoring all communications worldwide for decades now anyway.
Logging hits at a website is different from hijacking a website, IMO. If they want to data mine, go for it, as far as I'm concerned. If there's good reason (ie. messages to jihadis on the website) to shut down a website then I alter my opinion, but if they're shutting it down or hijacking it without cause and without a warrant or some other form of judicial review, that bothers me.
