NORMAN, Okla. -- The general manager of a Norman feed store said Tuesday that Joel Henry Hinrichs III had inquired about purchasing a significant amount of ammonium nitrate, the primary ingredient used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
Dustin Ellison, the general manager of Ellison Feed & Seed on Porter Avenue, said that a man matching Hinrichs' description had come into the store days before he blew himself up on OU's campus. Ellison said the man asked about ammonium nitrate, but couldn't offer a reason why he needed it.
After the bombing, Ellison said he thought nothing of it. However, when he saw Hinrichs' photo, it triggered his memory.
To this point, authorities still suggest Hinrichs' only motive for blowing himself up was suicide. The FBI released a statement Tuesday evening saying that "there is no known link between Hinrichs and any terrorist or extremist organization(s) or activities."
The release also indicated that the FBI believes there is "no known current threat posed by any additional explosive materials."
Ellison noted that his store doesn't carry ammonium nitrate any longer after recent legislation required new paperwork for stores to sell the product.
Stay tuned to Eyewitness News 5 for further details.
I was listening to Rick Roberts sitting in for Michael Savage too.
He was talking about the media silence surrounding the OU bombing and taking calls about the same subject. One caller said he was actually in the stadium and heard and "felt" (don't know if he actually used that word but suggested there was some sensation) the explosion. He said that nothing was said about what had happened.
He (RR) went to a commercial and when the show returned to the air all of a sudden IT WAS NOT RICK R. but a replay of M. Savage from last night!
Very odd. No explanation given.
Left me wondering...hmmmmm? Did "they" tell Rick Roberts to shut down the discussion and he refused to go along and they took him off the air and replaced with last night's taped show?!
I am in Florida.
Did anybody else have this experience anywhere else while listening?!
paranoid ping to #201
Hey--what can I tell ya? it's what happened...
Just wondering if anyone anywhere else had the same experience while listening to Savage's show?
I listened to the show all the way through tonight, even while exercising on the treadmill.
May have missed a few minutes here and there, but not much of it. RR was on the whole time where I am, maybe you had a different feed and for some reason it got lost, maybe they put on a tape for a while?
I don't know, don't have an answer, except RR was on the whole time where I am, though now and then when the show goes to commercial break, they do sometimes play some of Savage's shows, just as part of the break.
Other than that, I have no explanation.
Thank you--apparently it was in this area/market only.
Don't know about explosives at LAX. There was a shooting at the Air Israel counter at LAX that left several people (including the shooter) dead.
Hmmm... perhaps some stations/market may get jittery if people (callers) started talking about unsubstantiated reports. Some station owners are more strict than others and might decide to pull a specific broadcast I don't suppose it is impossible and maybe not unheard of. I do remember certain TV stations airing re-runs instead of specific episodes they feel are inappropriate or may "offend" their advertisers. Given the ongoing media "coverup" perhaps news outlets have been "warned"??? Another possibility is that the area may have a larger than average Muslim population, IIRC Rick was speaking about the Jihadist "theory" and they might have been worried about backlash?
Which station/city were you listening to? I saw you were in Florida, but perhaps others who were listening to the same station could confirm?
Yes, maybe you just lost the feed for a bit. Usually when a show gets lost where I am, I get subjected to nothing but 10 minutes of commercials, so you got lucky!
I was listening to WOKV 690 on the AM dial [I sound like an add for them...:) ]
I am in the Jacksonville Beach area--very northeast Florida.
off to bed now...
Baaad. But Good!

I am totally paranoid as it is -- this doesn't help!
See post #204. Appears to have been a local station issue.
Had some fellow trying to steal fertilizer from a farm a mile from my home. Feds were on to them, and asked family to stay with relative and positioned themselves to give them a warm welcome. Thieves shot first, but were carried away.
None of us would have known about it if there hadn't been a small article in the Indianapolis paper....Nothing, zilch, not a word in the local news. Family was instructed to keep quiet so not to tip others off. I heard about it from a friend that worked at the Co-op who delivered the material earlier in the day. He had an escort. He's the one that found the article in the paper....only because he was looking for it.
BTTT
It's a complicated issue, I think, about how much media silence is ideal. We need informed voters, on the one hand. We need secrecy on the other hand. Your post on 217 is enlightening. And I understand very well how the old media could blow it if this suicide bomber report isn't handled properly.
At the same time, we need occassional wakeup calls. That is an absolute must. The fact that the wife of a terrorist pardoner is so popular should be cause for concern about just how informed voters are.
There must be a happy medium out there.
