MIERS FOUND CHRIST, TURNED REPUBLICAN
By 1979, Harriet Miers, then in her mid-30s, had accomplished what some people take a lifetime to achieve. She was a partner at Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely, one of the most prestigious law firms in the South.
But she still felt something was missing in her life.
The NEW YORK TIMES is set to splash the "something" on Page Ones on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
It was after a series of long discussions with Nathan Hecht, a junior colleague and sweetheart, that led her to a decision that many of the people around her say changed Miers life.
"She decided that she wanted faith to be a bigger part of her life," Hecht said. "One evening she called me to her office and said she was ready to make a commitment," to accept Jesus Christ as her savior and be born again, Hecht said. Miers became an evangelical Christian and began identifying more with the Republican Party than with the Democrats who had long held sway over Texas politics. Developing...

You can't be serious. Even Tom Delay from Texas said just last month that it's out of control and they should start deporting them. Interesting, several weeks after announcing this, he's now out of job, at least temporarily anyway.
Do you need to live in Phoenix to know it's hotter than blazes. And like Texas, straining under the weight of illegal aliens? The fact is, Texas is now home to several million illegal aliens. It's no secret.
There are a zillion articles that will tell you all about it. Here is just one.

Texans press Bush on immigration 09/21/2005 Express-News Washington Bureau
WASHINGTON Fed up with what it sees as the government's inability to control the border with Mexico, a bipartisan group of Texas lawmakers is asking President Bush to free up federal funds to better enforce immigration laws and control violence, citing a failure of the federal government to enforce laws and stanch the flow of undocumented immigrants.
Texas lawmakers, in a letter to Bush, said undocumented immigrants, many from countries other than Mexico, "are crossing the border by the hundreds on a daily basis."
"They are presenting an immediate danger to the lives of people in every Texas community and beyond. We strongly urge you to take action now," said Rep. Henry Bonilla, R-San Antonio, the lawmaker leading the effort.
We'll see how persuasive your hysterical arguments are, and how your hatred for President Bush plays in the Senate.
Give it your best shot.
" . . . I find it highly suspicious that this woman turned Republican and joined a Texas church at a moment most convenient to her career. . ."
Huh?
This happened in 1980. That was 25 years ago. How is that "a moment most convenient to her career"?
and I don't think he'll blow it.
Ditto......
I'll settle for an originalist who doesn't try to legislate from the bench (for either side).
I'm not saying there isn't a problem with illegals crossing over. There is.
But your characterization of the actual situation along the border is ridiculous. Hell, the border cities in Texas don't even have a significant gang problem.
I realize illegal immigration is your main focus in life, so let's continue this discussion on another thread. It's not relevant to this one.
"how do you guarantee that?"
So you think that George Bush and his advisors (including Dick Cheney) are putting someone on the court that they know nothing about philosophically? To take that line of reasoning is more than suggesting Bush and Cheney are incompetent, it suggests they are undermining the court and intentionally trying to liberlize the court. That is ridiculous!
" . . .another problem, miers is too damn old. "
Miers is a runner and a tennis player. Her mother, although in frail health, is 93.
W's dad, in his 80s, looks younger than his Arkansas sidekick, not to mention making more sense.
Don't write her obit yet, please.
How has she ruled in the past?
Oh wait, she never has.
MIERS FOUND CHRIST
And here I thought I was the one who was lost
and Christ found me.
Baloney. Back that up with something more than a campaign contribution. Back up the radical part.
see post #74.
Next meaningless response...
HA! If you consider millions that are in your state illegally, not lawless and chaotic, with hundreds or thousands entering illegally daily, well then I just don't know what else to say to you.
Good day!
We don't know since Bush said in his press conference that he didn't ask her.
If we had a paper trail we could at least know to some extent what we were getting. We basically have "trust me" with this pick. Maybe she turns out to be a Scalia, but Bush had many more well documented candidates and he passed them by. Could they have been confirmed? I would have liked to try.
Not writing an obit. Using common sense.
A 47 year old has 13 more years that she could serve on the bench, all things being equal.
And plenty of people kick off even sooner than their parents did.
I would say so too!
Uh, what??
I have seen where she was contributed to Al Gore in 1988, but a RADICAL?
Where on earth do you get that? Do you have a source?
Aha! No wonder. The epitome of evil. Get garlic and a hammer and stake ready.
