Fellow FR's,
I need your help. I purchased a used lap top and was trying to add restricted sites, under Internet Explorer, but it's asking me for the administrator pass word. Trouble is, the previous owner forgot what the IE password was, (a friend and yes the lap top purchase was legit. He had all the other passwords). I was thinking that perhaps I could delete the file that contained the password or do a program remove and then add IE back in (but I'd like to avoid the latter procedure if possible)
Anyone have any ideas or help. I would be very grateful.

Did you try "ADMINISTRATOR"?..........
If it is XP Home Edition, reboot and press F8, go into safe mode and logon as administrator with no password - most people never set a password for administrator or even know that the account is there. From there you can redo whatever account authority or access you need.
Whatever you do, whatever people tell you to do, DO NOT pour piping hot tomato soup all over the keyboard! It doesn't matter if it's from a thermos or one of those little cans you can heat up in the microwave in the break room, both are bad.
Most of what the iT fellas tell me goes right over my head, but that's one I've now committed to memory.

DO NOT REFORMAT.
There are ways of getting any password off a Windows computer. If the suggestions here don't help, FR mail me.
From experience Jim Beam is not good for the keyboard either. If you are lucky enough not to spill it, beware, it makes you type funny.
I understand that this is only true if you're running Windows. It doesn't affect Mac or Linux users.
What OS?
In the case of soup in the keyboard it means OH S&^$!
I am assuming you are talking about the content advisor password. If so, here is a shareware tool that will recover or remove it:

EXACTLY
My son forgot the password on his laptop. I spent days trying to get an answer from Dell and Microsoft on how to do it. Dell had me taking the laptop apart. Even my "super smart" brother-in-law programmer (another story) didn't know what to do.
I finally found it on a Microsoft forum. The instructions above are exactly what you need to do.
download firefox.
4 8 15 16 23 42
Then press the "execute" button.
He is looking for the IE password, not one for the OS
The Opera browser is free, fast and now available w/out ads. Download it and give it try. It will even import your IE "favorites."

Odd, I once accidentally spilled Tanqueray and it caused a short that made the computer post that I loved everybody and then something that threatened JimRob. Crazy.

So he is. I'll just move along then.
