Feelers vs. Thinkers
Tech Central Station ^ | 10/03/05 | James D. Miller

Bill Bennett's recent abortion comments exposed the divide in America between thinkers and feelers. Bennett said "If you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose -- you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down." But Bennett then immediately added that doing so would be "an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do." No thinking person listening to Bennett would believe that he ever advocated aborting black babies.

But Bennett's abortion remarks did conjure a horrible image of the mass killing of unborn black children. Feelers, those who believe emotional reaction should trump all else, naturally were horrified at Bennett's comment. A feeler would find this image very painful to bear. A feeler, therefore, might feel that Bennett would have presented listeners with such a word-picture only if he himself was not bothered by the idea of killing black babies. Thinkers, however, have been defending Bennett because they believe that intellectual rigor often requires deliberately confronting painful images to get at truth.

Interesting article, especially since emotions are running high today.

The Democrats (Bennett's critics) don't want it known they've been supporting the killing of black babies for the purpose of bringing down future crime rates.

They fear it might lose them some votes (as if abortion isn't already wiping out the Democratic party base).

The left masks their eugenics plan by saying that those aborted babies would not have lived a "quality" life. Growing up poor (and possibly as a minority in a single mother household) is a fate worse than death, it would seem they are saying.

10 million and counting...

Democrats don't realize that what they have created is a "Bite off your nose to spite your face" dilemma.

A feeler would believe that Maher would have done this only if he sympathized with the terrorists.

Which, of course, he does.

It is well known that Margaret Sanger believed in eugenics. She founded "Planned Parenthood". You never hear the Dems worrying over that. Percentage wise many more blacks are aborted than whites. You never hear the Dems worrying over that. Dems are total hypocrites.

I believe that overly emotional people are easily manipulated. Jealousy is a good example which can cause the mind to race and create its own reality.

Emotional expectations such as the ones we have seen here on FR today is another. Many people may have set themselves up for a let down that didn't exist because the choice for the SCOTUS was an unknown quantity leading to uncertainty and anguish from the inability to answer the question, did we win or lose? The higher the stakes the higher the emotions generally. Watching a pro football game at a stadium is a great example.

There sure were a lot pessimists vowing never to vote Republican in spite of the fact that we had no facts.

Growing up poor (and possibly as a minority in a single mother household) is a fate worse than death, it would seem they are saying.

But it IS a fate worse than death. Kids who grew up like that have absolutely no chance to become anything other than parasites on society, if not outright criminals, and they're doomed to a life of misery.

Just ask me.

I grew up poor, in a single mother household, and I ended up dropping out of high school.

Oh, the tragedy.

Never mind that I eventually earned a Ph.D. Growing up poor ruined my chances at a decent life, just like every other poor kid's life is ruined.

Just listen to any discussion or debate involving liberals today. They will almost exclusively substitute the word THINK with the word FEEL.

It is so rampant that even conservatives often say FEEL in lieu of THINK.

Political Correctness has made whimps out of most of the nation and critcal thinking is becoming obsolete.

Interesting from a Myers-Briggs perspective...

It is. I think there's more than the thinker vs. feeler mentality going on here. I think that a lot of what passes for liberal thought is also based in intuitive vs. sensing.

Bill Bennett's critics are only going after him like they are because they were made very uncomfortable by how close he came to outright stating that abortion was a procedure reintroduced to society by the eugenics movement, and that its original goal was to do PRECISELY what he stated. It is very uncomfortable for them, and they simply cannot allow the masses to see the reality, which is that the abortion movement has absolutely nothing to do with feminism, respect for the bodies of women, freedom, or any of the other mushy crap the powerful lobbies spoon-feed to the public. It has everything to do with a movement that advocates the manipulation of the gene pool and indeed all of humanity by enforced selective breeding. It is disgusting, and the more you learn, the worse it gets.

It is very uncomfortable for them, and there are large sections of the public that simply will not believe you if you point out that Planned Parenthood was founded by eugenicists. Most of us on here are very familiar with Margaret Sanger, of course, so I won't reiterate the whole thing again. All you need to know is that for Sanger, minorities constituted "human weeds".

I'm an ENTJ. For those not familiar with Myers-Briggs, they classify people into 16 personality types based upon 4 dimensions:

Introvert--Extrovert (E-I) Are you energized by people or drained by them?
Sensing--Intuition (S-N) Are you naturally observant or are more focused on your inward thoughts?
Thinking--Feeling (T-F) Are you more comfortable with logical analysis or emotions and relationships?
Perceiving--Judging (P-J) Are you more comfortable before you make a decision (gathering data) or afterward?

My wife is an ISTJ. We make decisions very quickly and have loud but short fights.

My first daughter is an ESFP. My second daughter is INTP. My son is ENTJ.

There's nothing right or wrong about any combination--it's how you use it.

Obviously, if you focus on F without using T, you'll be duped and misled by others. If you focus on T without F, you'll offend people and not have many friends.

Intuitives get new, creative ideas. But don't ask them for directions. Ask a Sensor.

I would guess a lot of the so-called swing moderates are Perceivers--they don't feel comfortable making decisions, so they wait until they're in the voting booth. I usually pick my first, second, and third presidential choices before the primaries are over.

For 2008, my choices are: 1. Jeb Bush; 2. George Allen

I'll have to see who's running to make my final choice.

I am a feeler, who would never come to the conclusion Bennet wanted to abort black babies.

Hmmmmm. I remember having taken that test ~ 6 months ago, and it pegged me as an INTJ. (boarderline S/N) and it's spot on.

I also know that when I am getting into a discussion with someone, I hear them say, I feel, and I respond with, I think. The logic wears out the lib'rals.

I, like your wife, am an ISTJ. Which makes us both the minority as far as women go--as I recall, a large majority of women are feelers.

I think where the problems come in is people who are strongly _NFP (especially in N and F). They're incapable of logical thought, and they cannot see details. They're prime candidates for exploitation by any wolf (a lot of whom are Dem leaders), and cannot even perceive that they are exploited.

You're far ahead of me in selecting presidential candidates--I really need to know who's running before I can think about that!

In 3 of the 4 categories I score so close to the centerline that my letters change every time I take the dang test.

"I think that a lot of what passes for liberal thought is also based in intuitive vs. sensing."
Why, it is not a psychological but rather a physiological problem - they still "think", but what do they "think" with? And while brain convolutions are superficially resembling intestines, the corresponding contents and [antillectual] quality thereof is clearly different - one stinks much worse...
