As political activists rush to mine Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers' slender public record, a former campaign manager says she opposed abortion rights while running for Dallas City Council in 1989.

"She is on the extreme end of the anti-choice movement," said Lorlee Bartos, who managed Miers' first and only political campaign and said they discussed abortion once during the race.

"I think Harriet's belief was pretty strongly felt," Bartos said Monday. "I suspect she is of the same cloth as the president."

So she's pro life. Well, maybe now Laura Ingraham can shut the hell up.

Honestly...Laura is just part of those north eastern educated folks who thinks she knows what conservatism is. And she's ticked that someone who practiced real law got picked.....and not just another judge/prof minded blowhard.

Too bad...Harvard loses.

So the campaign manager and the candidate disagreed? How normal is that.

In a campaign for City Council, where abortion will never come up, I suspect it happens all the time. I have supported people for one position that I would not support for another because of one issue.

VERY NORMAL. Half of the campaign managers out there, have no campaign experience at the real level. So it happens a lot. So its safe to say it happens at the big level as well.

Oh...wondering how these people get camp. manager jobs with no experience?....THE GOP sends them to their little campaign training program. YEAH....THAT'S ENOUGH TO WORK!!! NOT>

Seriously, though, what Miers is is a judicial blank slate.

Exactly. We have only a few (untrustworthy and contradictory) incites into her thinking.

Therefore we have really only ONE opinion with which carries any weight, namely the opinion of Miers held by GWB.

At this point a whole lot of people (myself included) are teetering on the edge of going wobbly on trust of Bush.

We are in a crap shoot, and the dice have not stopped rolling.

LOL!!!!

.................
And, I'll take this opportunity to say that I have no reservations about Ms. Miers currently, I have faith in Bush, and will wait patiently for the bitter, pessimistic, self-grandizing conservative moonbats and the trolls to ST*U.

Two for two so far.

Why don't you believe it? You think Bush is dumb? You think she's pulled the wool over his eyes? Is she lying to him? Is this a liberal conspiracy? I'm seriously curious.

Between this and the Ok bombing, I think there is a big segment of FR that wants things to go badly. It is seriously depressing me and making me feel that anyone who thinks the sky isn't about to fall shouldn't be here. I think FR is going to make me an angry, pessimistic, bitter crone like some here if I stick around.

Saying that she is personally pro-life says absolutely nothing about her views on Roe v. Wade, as a matter of constitutional law. So many Freepers fail to understand this important distinction.

and the other problem is that everyone keeps talking in the present tense. its what she does 5 years from now, that is more important then 5 months from now. she was pro-choice in her "youth", now she is pro-life, and tommorrow? will she hold up if Ruth Bader Ginsburg becomes an influential friend?
