As political activists rush to mine Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers' slender public record, a former campaign manager says she opposed abortion rights while running for Dallas City Council in 1989.
"She is on the extreme end of the anti-choice movement," said Lorlee Bartos, who managed Miers' first and only political campaign and said they discussed abortion once during the race.
"I think Harriet's belief was pretty strongly felt," Bartos said Monday. "I suspect she is of the same cloth as the president."

Bartos said Miers told her she was "pro-choice in her youth" but underwent "a born-again, profound experience" that caused her to oppose abortion.
Beyond their exchange in 1989, Bartos said she has no other insight into Miers' views on abortion.
pork skin?
I certainly hope so! A pro-life female justice would be wonderful!
That's hillarious. For thousands of years the concept of killing your baby before it was born was reprehensible. Now that concept's called a movement? An obvious attempt to rewrite history.
What, she lives in fear of taking a stand and crossing the Democrats, too?
So the campaign manager and the candidate disagreed? How normal is that.
Pardon me for being just a little more nervous...
There are people in my family whom I'm sure would be stunned at some of the Supreme Court rulings I would issue if I were in that position.
I don't believe this for a second. Why would my senator say such nice things about her then? Chuck Schumer is a vicious lens lice cretin.
"I think Harriet's belief was pretty strongly felt," Bartos said Monday. "I suspect she is of the same cloth as the president."
Notice the term anti-choice, pretty much defines Ms. Bartos' politics.
The Abortionists have the long knives comming out.
Well since "choice" is now taken to mean infanticide, this is wonderful news.
"What, she lives in fear of taking a stand and crossing the Democrats, too?"
Bush sent the US military in to invade Iraq, throw out the old government and bring in a new one.
Yup, a real cowardly man afraid to take a stand.../rolleyes
There were a number of potential nominees that we have no way of knowing what they really think, and Miers is one of them.
There were also a number of potential nominees that the President had no way of knowing what they really think, but Miers is definitely NOT one of them. He knows exactly what she thinks on the issues, and has chosen her.
So what do we have to do to get him to take a stand in this country?
Predictions:
Within a week, the New York Times will have photographs of Harriet Miers in a rowboat with Karl Rove setting charges by a New Orleans levee.
CBS will claim NYT intercepted the photos at Kinko's before Dan Rather could pick them up after being faxed from their "source in Texas".
Charles Schumer will look over the top of his eyeglasses at Harriet Miers and ask her to bring "two sugars" for his coffee. He will then claim she did not provide adequate details about why he had been provided coffee that was not pre-sweetend.
Patrick Leahy will claim he cannot get a complete picture of Harriet Miers views. Due to the dyslexia prevalent on his staff, when he asks his staff to "pose a list of questions" to the nominee, they send Harriet Miers a "list of poses the Senator wants to view" and they ask her to submit them within three weeks.
When Cheney goes on Rush and says trust me she's a conservative I tend to believe she is.
You make a good point. A pro-life women on the Supreme Court would deflect much of the outrageous argument that says men are controlling women's bodies and taking away their "rights," etc.
Hot damn, Now we're talking.
