I didn't attack you as a troll. Get a grip.

I KNOW I'm a conservative. I just don't KNOW what you are.

(And immigration is NOT the topic of this thread. Since you're a newbie, I'll assume you just didn't know that, leading to your off-topic questions).

I've seen NOTHING to PROVE she's pro-abort. Would it be beneath the lib media the throw that out there to cause dissent among pubbies and anger toward Bush? Nah, they'd never try something that underhanded.

We give the GOP control of the Executive and Legislative branches of government, yet the Democrats are still in charge.

The Republicans had better figure this out pronto, or they are going to see a massacre in 2006 and 2008 because of this RINO President.

Where are there some Republicans with cajones enough to stand up and call this RINO President for what he is: a Maine Republican in a ten-gallon hat? When I hear that, I will stop tearing up the GOP trash that somes in my mail.

In the meantime, the Dems will string out the confirmation process allowing O'Connor to sit on the court a few more months longer at least. I found that the most ominous part of GWB's statement today.

Her involvement with the ABA is a concern to me. My husband quit his ABA membership years ago. It's not about law, it's about leftist agenda.

What makes you think that President Bush screwed us by this pick?

What is your evidence that Meirs is not a virtual reincarnation of Monroe?

Judge Sarah Hughes, whom Miers clerked for, was also a long-time personal friend of LBJ. In fact, she swore in LBJ to the presidency in that famous photo on Air Force One after JFK's assassination.

Miers is O'Connor lite, but Reagan put the original on the court.

So you are not a Republican for ideological reasons then?

I support the GOP because they're the closest viable party to my ideology. Evidently, in 1988 the Democrats were the closest viable party to Miers' ideology.

I don't consider that a positive.

The fact that she donated money to Bentsen

Well, in all fairness, at the time Texas was run by Democrats, so if you wanted things done, who are you going to cozy up to? Also, Sen. Bentsen was more conservative than at least 40 of the present Republican Senators. Not that that's saying a whole lot...

The Gore thing does bother me though. Perhaps a personal connection there as well? Time will tell.

At the end of the day, I couldn't care less if she is conservative, liberal, or even French for that matter. I care if she's a textualist in the Scalia sense. Perhaps not being a judge *might* turn out to be a positive in this regard? Dare I say that "lawyers" are more reliant on the letter of the law rather than trying to "interpret" it? I'm not happy right now, but I'm looking for a bridge to jump from either....at least not yet.

Unless you are able to show otherwise, those are the only facts that are here. If there is any complaint to be made about a lack of facts, it is that those who are defending this nomination don't have any. Prove me wrong - give me one piece of information that gives some hope that she won't turn out to be a left-winger.

The missus is a wonderful lady. She's compassionate, intelligent, and I know her heart. She's also volunteered for lots of compassionate organizations. Maybe that qualifies her for SCOTUS.

It's not about Miers. Bush had a chance to CHANGE the court and it appears that he punted the ball. Sorry folks. Bush blew it.

Well guess what, WE'RE DISAPPOINTED TOO! Some of us worked our tails off to get bush elected. He made a promise or two to us for all the work his supporters did. Now his is dropping those promises like hot rocks. You're d*mned right some of us are pissed. We have every d*mned right to be. Don't like it? Too badm, keep looking through the rose-colored glasses and praising everything Bush does. Newsflash, he can't walk on water.

I voted for Bush, I have been very impressed with Bush, but this is too much. It's a blatant shot at all of us who supported his PROMISE of justices in the mold of Scalia/Thomas.

And you have the nerve to call us "so-called conservatives" on this thread???? Let me spell it out for you: WE ARE MAD BECAUSE BUSH HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PICK A GOOD, SOLID CONSERVATIVE FOR THIS SLOT BUT HE THREW IT AWAY ON A LACKEY FRIEND WHO THE DEMOCRATS LIKE. Now what the heck does that tell you? Do the stinking math here. It's the reral conservatives that you're whining about.

When she supported Gore in '88 HE was pro-life. I'd sooner believe she's pro-life. The libbies are the ones on TV throwing out the pro-abort rumors.

It's another great day to be a Dem, with Reid's pick going to the Sup Ct. I try to console myself that at least John Kerry isn't doing it. In the Oval Office.
Here in PA we are used to the disconnect from the elected reps. We have Arlen Specter. The President endorsed Specter when a true conservative alternative was available. That's when I stood back and took a good hard look at the two Presidents Bush. They are moderates and compromisers and it's naive to expect them to act like conservatives. The current President signed McCain-Feingold, favors the Law of the Sea Treaty, and every chance he gets, he deodorizes Bill Clinton a little more. He's a globalist, a big spender, and lately he's reaching out to Arabs and urging Israel to make more suicidal concessions.
John Roberts was one thing, but Harriet Miers is an outright stab in the front, even to the disillusioned.
Therefore---why should I care if the GOP is united? Which clearly they are not. Who defended the President in the aftermath of Katrina? How few are defending Tom DeLay? It's been every man for himself, all along. They are mostly RINOs and by definition RINOs are unprincipled, claiming to be what they are not.
The sooner the GOP fractures, the better. This country needs two new parties.
Rant over, I'm going to sit back and watch the starry-eyed folks who think Bush hung the moon, as they stand on their heads trying to see red on blue here, trying to discern strategery in this grossly disappointing appointment, still trying to see a Reagan in a Bush.

"A lot of conservatives simply don't trust him, and they have good reason not to."

I will be hoping this nomination is derailed, but I fear the DEms got their pick and the Repub Senators will not break with Bush. THis nomination was the Opportunity to reverse years of Judical Tyranny, that is what hurts me most, This is worse than READ MY LIPS. because the impact on our country will go on for years,, those GOP boosters here are willing to ignore this? and yet claim they are conservative?? I will be hard pressed to vote for a national GOP candidate as I no longer trust Them. Will this uphold not just ROE but also KELO and our property rights (no rights as of kelo)

Unless you are able to show otherwise, those are the only facts that are here.

They're NOT facts. Unless, of course, you're playing the liberal game of "I'm saying it, now you must prove me wrong."

Play that crap with somebody else.
