I'm sure she's a lovely woman, but she's till too old and too blah. You keep saying things like this and the fact that she is not married with children. It seems you'd only be happy if she were some prom queen or June Cleaver.

I'm done with Bush.Isn't that just what you said back in 1999?

Like Rehnquist?
Yes, like Rehnquist.
I don't think Rehnquist was particularly suitable at the time of his choosing. However, by picking a crony, Nixon did get someone who would reliably decide in a way that closely matched Nixon's own politics.
Don't get me wrong, I believe Rehnquist made a fine jurist, though I think Reagan should have put Scalia directly in the Chief Justice seat. Rehnquist's refusal to retire even on his deathbed was undignified, to say the least.
I do believe that Miers will probably turn out for Bush how Rehnquist was for Nixon: a reliable vote. And in many ways, Bush is actually making the safest, most un-Souter-like pick. But this isn't about the future of the court itself right now, we just don't know enough to discuss that. We're still just in the thick of the politics of it, and on that front, Miers was a poor choice. That base is anything but excited, and she is fairly undistinguished. A lot of good people were passed over for this pick.
Regarding how she will change the court, we just don't know, and can't know. People have a way of changing when they suddenly find themselves on the bench instead of before it. Miers could drift more and more left in practice, once on the Court. Someone like Luttig would not, he's quite set in his judicial philosophy and temperament through actual court experience.

Sekulow-- another go along to get along hack. Best case scenario, she's not qualified enough or young enough. And that's the best effing case scenario.

Bush knows her well, so I think we have to assume she is on the same wave-length. Well, all the headlines say he "tapped" her. I'd have to say his judgment's in question on this one.

The goal of GW Bush is to nominate the rightward most nominee who is confirmable. Maybe this is that person.

When the whispers about Miers start, let's remember it was faithincowboys who started them.

So will you come back when Miers is easily confirmed and votes to overturn Roe or will you continue acting like a drama queen? May I suggest you read the following?
"AP, 2/2/1992, on whether as President she would ask a potential nominee how he or she would rule on abortion:
Nominees are clearly prohibited from making such a commitment and presidents are prohibited from asking for it, said Harriet Miers, a Dallas lawyer and president-elect of the State Bar of Texas.
In 1993, after the ABA had voted to adopt a pro-choice stance, the State Bar of Texas, under Miers leadership, fought to have the issue put to a vote of the full ABA membership. She said:
If we were going to take a position on this divisive issue, the members should have been able to vote.
In favor of democracy on the issue of abortion? Lets hope she carries that through."

I won't jump to any conclusions about that, we don't know which "Exodus" she's connected with.Yes we do. It's Exodus MINISTRIES......a Christian charitable organization created to get homeless people to become independent through their own skills..........(i.e. conservative).

This nomination is bothering me. I took the President on faith with John Roberts that he'll be a conservative when the going gets tough on the court. I don't feel we should be asked to always blindly support him. I got my email from Mehlman and replied:
Dear Mr Mehlman,
Prove to me that she is "in the mold of Scalia and Thomas" as previously promised by the President and I'll move heaven and earth to support her. If not, I'm sitting home in 06.
For what it's worth.

If you want to make people angry, lie to them. If you want to make them absolutely livid, then tell 'em the truth.

No, I would've been fine with Owen. More qualified, younger and married... don't need a June Cleaver or a beauty queen, just someone who raised kids and personally demonstrated she is pro-family and pro-life.

If she's the one, I have a problem with her association with the Tx. lotto comm. I'm pretty sure the lotto has been a major scam as far as how the proceeds were used. It was suppose to benefit education, however the money never seems to be there.
Whenever states vote in lotteries, they always say it will benefit education and it never does (hate using "always" and "never," but in the case of lotto...).
Texas did have a lotto problem/investigation although I can't recall the specifics right now...wonder if Miers was on the end that was the problem or on the end that tried to clean it up.

Would be nice. And Blackwell is fiercely competent, something the Ohio GOP has been missing for awhile.
