A University of Oklahoma student died in an explosion Saturday night near a stadium packed with 84,000 people. Although the investigation is not complete, the medical examiner believes Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colo., perished in the blast, said Salvador Hernandez, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oklahoma .
Hinrichs died about 8 p.m. when an explosive detonated near the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
According to the university’s Web site, Hinrichs was a junior in the college of engineering.
There were no reports of any other injuries and university officials have said the spectators at the game were in no danger at any time.
Initially, police believed there were two explosives -- the one that detonated and another that didn't -- but a later search found no other device.
University President David Boren said a police bomb squad did detonate an item found at the blast site to ensure that it was not an explosive.

Why do you believe that or our you just a member of Jesse's cheering section? For an engineering student, building a bomb and using it to commit suicide makes sense to me. Its the kind of challenge an engineer would get off on and its more likely that a engineering student would have access to bomb making materials than a gun. Also what better way to make sure that 1) you are succesful in your attempt, and 2) people remember you. Who, other than a few close friends or family members remembers the person who overdoses. When I was in a school, a guy walked in on my roommate slitting his wrist for the third time and just walked out laughing. My roommate immediately called 911. You dont want to die thinking your friends thought your suicide was a joke.

Our local media does not cover suicides of kids or young adults. They think it will lead to copycats. Prayers for this kids family. Their son has been on national news and they are going to face all kinds of cameras eventually. That will make healing difficult.
That would be a form of suicide, sorta 'suicide by wife'.
