The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
Until last night, I didn't even know we were padlocked in and haven't heard a peep except everything done was for our safety.
They showed a picture of the apartment on Channel 5 last night and pointed to the fact the roommate had moved back in the apartment but wouldn't be interviewed.
Yup, reported here
This may already have been mentioned, but all I have seen of this is that it's on Fox's crawl this morning, just two lines, and nothing new.
susie
That's from 2002?
that bothers me above all, that something that could be as easily overhyped as this is not headlining FNC, a channel known for its histrionics. Something doesn't smell right.
I may have missed the answer, so forgive me if I'm repeating...has it been established that he converted to islam?
Not that I've seen but the beard, I thought, was an indication that he was.
The second I saw that funky looking beard I thought he was muslim.
Suicides are frequently very egotistical people who feel the world has slighted them, and they want to go out with a dramatic gesture that will attract attention. They particularly want to shock the people they feel are responsible for their unhappiness - a lumber worker who felt he was not appreciated at work, for example, tied himself onto a log before it went through the saw, in front of the eyes of his horrified co-workers.
It could be that this guy felt the University had "done him wrong" and was planning on doing something spectacular and public, preferably at half-time, that would get the attention of everybody at there. From the reports of other people here, it sounds like his blowing up on the bench in a relatively out of the way place may have been an accident, and not what he had intended to do.
The deceased sounds like a jihadi wannabe to me. The question is, was he a lone wolf or did he have help?
Note, a 2002 picture, so that would mean he didn't just grow the beard because he just turned into a muslim.
Question is...will they ever let the public aware if he converted is islam, we are such children and need to be protected and all that./sarc
BTTT just because.
I believe the news blackout is to give LE time to sort through all the evidence before going public with their findings. Remember how nothing was coming out at first about the D.C. snipers? Eventually, they thought there was enough risk to the public to come out with some of their findings.
Face it, there are so many conflicting stories floating around, many of them probably rumors. At the risk of sounding naive, I think we have to trust that if there is anything the public needs to know for public safety, they will tell us. Right now it is just too early into this thing.
That said, I think the Dad's comments are downright weird. He is surprisingly talkative for someone grieving over his son, and he sounds like a shrink himself. It almost sounds as if he's rehearsed all these pat answers ahead of time. I'm wondering if this is not the first time his son attempted suicide.
My gut feel is no terrorism involved...at least not any organized, Al-Quaida related terrorism. The kid may have wanted to take out some people while killing himself, and as such, that is a form of terrorism. But the AQ signature is usually several similar incidents in rapid succession, and that has not happened.
