From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

I'm not so sure about that, but, with the old Vietnam War protest playbook, we are about due for the "Tet Offensive" phase. Terrorists in Iraq are not getting the airtime, and having a few go off here at home might be the game plan, just like the timing of Tet was supposed to show Americans 'how the war was a failure'. Actually, the end result was that VC forces were pretty much rendered combat ineffective after Tet and NVA regulars had to take over. In spite of this, the American MSM bought into the concept of "failure" and continued to push antiwar crap at home with increased vigor.

A few of these incidents, and the media will be spewing about how the WOT is not getting the job done, see, they are right here at home, stop the war and they'll quit, and other such crap.

I think the Muslims involved are using the same communist playbook. There are lots of Muslims right here in the USA, and maybe a few outright jihadis, so it does not even have to be a foreigner...

the first suicide bombing in the U.S. will officially make no place feel safe as opposed to the post 9-11 "vulnerable" spots (airplanes, ball games, etc.) In a suicide-bombing environment, pizza shops, cafes, and any place you've ever heard of being bombed in places like Israel, won't feel safe.

Thanks, yep, I know exactly where it is. It *used* to be the tallest and most modern building around there, then MY building, the next-to-latest Journ building.

I just couldn't picture a "traffic circle" anywhere but Classen Blvd in OKC (on old Rte66, natch).

Another article says it actually happened in a "courtyard" of the Botany Bldg/Cross Hall. Does that sound feasible, from what you know?

Also, which frat houses are you talking about? The ones along Elm, or College, Cruce, Chautauqua, etc., or south along The Row?

that is true, that guy who shot up the El Al counter at LAX was a standalone operative. and I also believe the pilot of that Egypt Air flight out of JFK who ditched the plane was also. this could be the same thing, given that Oklahoma already has an "installed base" of terror sympathizers from years past.

The side of the face of his fraternity brother was still red -- that's how close he was. He said at the time all he could think to do was run and then wondered if someone thought he was involved so he called the cops to report what he had seen and they showed up as my daughter and I were leaving.

The Frat brother did the right thing by contacting the authorities. If someone has the NEED TO KNOW, it needs to be them.

By the other side of the token, if this really was some sort of Terrorist attack, then we don't need to AID THE ENEMY

Maybe my attitude is this way as I just finished watching the trilogy Lord of the Rings.

Where the fellowship was at different times was known to the enemy. And there were sneak attacks in that trilogy at different times, or people caught off guard by people who betrayed them...

I tried to call my daughter in her sorority house when I went to pick her up before the game this afternoon and it didn't work then -- her phone didn't ring and I got her voice mail so I went in the house and there she was on the computer and had not used the cell phone. My son had the same thing happen about the same time when he called me from the Vista to say he would meet us at Gate 7. Yet a short time before I was relaying calls to him about scores I was hearing.

Fox had this story on breaking news. As attested by others on this thread, they removed the entire story/link subsequently. I guess they were waiting for confirmation but why on earth would they want to remove the story?

Update: they have it on the latest headlines box on the right now.

Transcript Staff Writer

An apparent suicide bombing on the University of Oklahoma campus Saturday evening killed at least one person.

According to a statement from OU President David Boren, a second explosive device was found and detonated. Initial reports had that occurring about 9:15 p.m.

The blast happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. on the South Oval, across the street from the Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where more than 80,000 people were watching the OU-Kansas State football game. One person who responded to the scene said she heard the blast from four miles away.

“We are apparently dealing with an individual suicide which is under full investigation,” Boren said in the statement. “At no time was anyone in the stadium in danger. Law enforcement officers and bomb experts on site were activated in the area immediately.”

Boren said he ordered a search of the garage area near the stadium along with lower levels outside the stadium.

The entire South Oval was taped off, and many law enforcement officers were there to make sure no one entered the area. The suicide happened in or near the George Lynn Cross botany/microbiology building the oval’s east side.

Damage to the microbiology building or any other structure couldn’t be seen from the distant perimeter.

Sgt. Gary Robinson of OUPD confirmed one death, but gave no further details on the person or whether anyone else was injured. He said detectives were unable to investigate the scene right away because other personnel needed time to thoroughly sweep the area for additional explosive devices.

“One fatality is all we know right now,” he said.

Student Keaton Fuchs of the cable television station TV4OU had a video camera at the stadium’s highest level. He turned toward the South Oval right after the explosion and saw a small amount of gray smoke rising from the botany/microbiology building.

Numerous public agencies were on the scene, including OU and Norman police, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, state medical examiner’s office, the FBI and Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Passouts normally are given to people who want to leave at halftime and come back, but they were not issued Saturday. Fans never were permitted to go on or near the South Oval, and after the game, which OU won 43-21, pedestrians weren’t allowed to walk north on Asp Avenue beyond the stadium’s southwest corner.

Six members of the Brothers Under Christ fraternity dressed in white T-shirts, each with a red spray-painted Superman “S” and white capes couldn’t walk a few dozen feet beyond the barriers to retrieve their bicycles at the stadium.

They decided to walk a mile back home and get their bikes today.

“We heard so many rumors about this in the stadium,” said Preston White, a BUC sophomore from Tulsa majoring in chemical engineering. “At first we thought it was thunder, then we heard propane and suicide bombing, just all sorts of rumors.

I figured when the donor side was starting to empty there was something bad going on but we had no news forever after hearing the initial blast.

Sorry for some of the confusing language.

Of course, I am doing that so that if someone tries to translate my posts into Persian or Arabic, it might really get fouled up (FUBR) in the translation.

God bless!

I can almost buy this, except that why would the terrorists go along with this?

If there were supression of news about multiple terrorist attacks in this country, wouldn't the terror organizations be blasting to the world that they had had all these attacks? Of course,we would deny it, but the reports would be there. But they aren't. Nothing about Al Qaeda claiming credit for this bombing, or for any of a number of other things which have been called accidents.

These reports would make it to news outlets in other countries which would NOT hesitate to publish them.

I'm not "refuting" the idea that we are hiding terror attacks, just pointing out problems with the theory.

Do the kids still have a mass exodus at half-time to the beer joint across Lindsey to the SE?

I never went there because our tickets were on the west side on the club level, so we just went in there. (And I'm way, way past being a "kid.")

We've always done our tailgating all before the game.

I know...I am putting on my tin foil hat right now..just in case(LOL). It is odd to say the very least. I have never had a problem with reaching my son unless his battery ran out blah blah blah..But I was in a semi panic when I tried to call because of his best friend at OU, so I called at least THREE of his friends and their cells were doing the same thing..no ring..straight to the call notes. All of them were at the game with him. ???

Interesting. I am guessing the higher explosives burn at such a fast rate they don't have time to produce a lot of smoke. Would that be correct?

"Can someone wake up DRUDGE?"

Sure. We all nominate you, shortstop. Just get in your car and run over to NY. Tell Drudge and FOX amd CNN and NBC, etc that we're all sitting around with baited breath waiting for them to get on the air and tell us that they DON"T KNOW A DARN THING.

Thanks for your service.
