The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief
Full Story

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

I have dial-up, and my computer is slower than Granny's. Better slow than not being online at all. Counting my blessings...

Very true- it's easy to get spoiled by high-speed access.

First PC was a Trash-80 with the "luxury" of a direct-connect ( no placing the handset in a cradle ) 300 baud modem... which, compared to the 60 word-per-minute speed of a teletype machine seemed fast as lightning.

I'll never forget the first BBS I logged on to-- it was some kind of general-aviation board, which was not my field, but... it had... email! You could send a note to other members! Who'd thunk such a thing was possible.

Now, my 87 year old MIL is asking me "what's an Ipod? Where does the music come from?"
( She still has a phone with a rotary dial... )

"United States to Require RFID Chips in Passports
State Department says controversial chips enhance security."

Grant Gross, IDG News Service
Wednesday, October 26, 2005

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON -- By October 2006, the U.S. government will require nearly all of the passports it issues to include a computer chip containing the passport holder's personal information, according to regulations published this week.

Starting in early 2006, the U.S. Department of State will begin issuing passports with 64-kilobyte RFID (radio frequency identification) chips that will contain the name, nationality, gender, date of birth, and place of birth of the passport holder, as well as a digitized photograph of that person.

The chip's contents will match the data on the paper portion of the passport, improving passport security by making it more difficult for criminals to tamper with passports, backers say. U.S. government efforts to make passports harder to forge began in response to the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001."

How did it get in the fountain?

If natural, then all those cute fountains in the homes will be a danger.

If not natural, then look for more of them to show up, all over the country.

No more, sitting near the pleasant sound of fake water.

J&K group claims responsibility for Delhi blasts
Rediff ^ | October 30

Posted on 10/30/2005 1:31:14 AM PST by ganeshpuri89

A hitherto unknown militant outfit, Inquilab group, claimed
responsibility on Sunday for the three serial blasts that ripped through
the capital, killing 61 and injuring nearly 200 people.

A caller identifying himself as Ahmad Yaar Gaznavi, a spokesman of
Inquilab group, claimed that the activists of the outfit had carried out
the bomb explosions in Delhi. "Our activists are involved in the three
explosions", he said, adding that it was in response to the activities of
Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

Interesting info in comments.

Iran fires Britain, France, and Germany ambassadors
Al Jazeera ^ | Oct. 29, 2005 | Al Jazeera News

Posted on 10/30/2005 12:35:01 AM PDT by FairOpinion

The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad fired his country’s
ambassadors to Britain, France, and Germany, a government official
told Iran Focus.

“Ahmadinejad has been angered by what he sees as the envoys’ meek
reaction to the global condemnation of his Wednesday speech against
Israel and the West”, the official said on condition of anonymity,
adding that the President “made the speech with the full blessing of
the Supreme Leader [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei] and has his green light
to stifle any dissenting voice within the government”.

Ahmadinejad also ordered 18 envoys to be recalled to Tehran.

The Commander in Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, the
Speaker of Parliament, the Secretary General of the Supreme National
Security Council and the powerful Minister of Intelligence and Security
(Iran’s secret police) endorsed the President Ahmadinejad’s speech in
which he said that Israel must be “wiped out”. They also made equally
strong invectives against what they usually refer to as the “Zionist
enemy”.

LucyT,

How does this bacterium develop in the fountain? Is it from not keeping the water clean and moving? Does adding chemicals like in swimming pools help?

Thanks for the ping Lucy. I'm thinking Legionaire's bacterium grows in moist/wet unclean places. Having a water fountain in a restaurant or hotel etc. is just asking for trouble. The mist will travel and land on the food in restaurants and probably into the a/c system in hotels.

As far as drinking fountains are concerned I haven't drank from one of them since 1970.[that is a cocktail of germs rather than just water in there] Of course if they decide to poison bottled water I'm a goner.

This city has gone nuts the past couple of months trying to track down the source of the Legionaire's Disease. I am so glad they finally did. Even our mayor spent quite a long time in the hospital from the disease. The owner has several restaurants in the area and is a pretty nice guy. I'm sure he is devastated.

I've eaten at Casa del Rey many times. The fountain is lovely and reminiscent of colonial Mexico. It sits in the lobby and everyone walks past it to get into the dining rooms.

Their salsa is great.

It is a natural bacteria found in water, and one of the reasons chlorine is added to our drinking water.

Potentially dangerous amounts of Legionella, the bacteria that causes Legionnaire's disease, have been found in four NASA buildings at Moffett Field.

As a result, NASA has spent the last few weeks temporarily evacuating the buildings -- and shutting off water --

while eradicating the bacteria using chlorine.

This is from the CDC website:

The Legionella bacteria are found naturally in the environment, usually in water.

The bacteria grow best in warm water, like the kind found in hot tubs, cooling towers,

hot water tanks,

large plumbing systems, or air-conditioning systems of large buildings. They do not seem to grow in car or window air-conditioners.

The infection is transmitted through the respiratory system. Person-to-person spread has not been proved.

The goal of treatment is to eliminate the infection with antibiotics. Treatment is started as soon as Legionnaire's disease is suspected, without waiting for confirmation by culture results.

Al Qaeda/Al Qaida

ACLU: Coach badgered player about al-Qaida
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico has filed a grievance against New Mexico State football coach Hal Mumme, saying he discriminated against a now-released Muslim player by repeatedly questioning him about al-Qaida.
(...)The grievance, written by ACLU staff attorney George Bach of Albuquerque, said Mumme questioned Ali repeatedly in July about “Islam and specifically its ties to al-Qaida,” the terrorist organization headed by Osama bin Laden.
Those actions “smack of religious discrimination sufficient to warrant a complete and immediate investigation by the NMSU Office of Institutional Equity,” the ACLU said.

(I don't know what's up with this case - it's possible the coach released them due to their religion... BUT, if the coach was merely asking a known Muslim about his religion and it's apparent link to Al Qaeda I would say that it constitutes wanting to gain a better understanding of the religion as it relates to World Events, not "badgering". - LR)

Default judgment granted in al-Qaida case
SALT LAKE CITY -- A soldier wounded in a firefight in Afghanistan and the widow of his slain comrade won a default judgment against the estate of a suspected al-Qaida financier.
The lawsuit alleged the late Ahmed Said Khadr failed to control his then-15-year-old son and prevent him from intentionally harming others in the July 2002 battle.
(...)Khadr, an Egyptian-born, naturalized Canadian citizen, is said to have been killed in a gunfight in Pakistan.
His son, Omar Khadr, is being held at the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba over protests of the Canadian government that he is a juvenile.

Iran lets senior al Qaeda suspects roam free: report
BERLIN (Reuters) - Iran is permitting around 25 high-ranking al Qaeda members to roam free in the country's capital, including three sons of Osama bin Laden, a German monthly magazine reported on Wednesday.
Citing information from unnamed Western intelligence sources, the magazine Cicero said in a preview of an article appearing in its November edition that the individuals in question are from Egypt, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and Europe

Iranian War Veterans to attend CCW Conference

The war veterans who are on a visit to the Netherlands to attend the Tenth Conference of member states of Convention against Chemical Weapons (CCW) in the Hague, said that the court of justice should put the crime of chemical attack on indictment of Saddam too.
(...)About 100,000 Iranian soldiers fell victims to Iraqi chemical attacks during eight years of imposed war. Several hundred civilians also suffered from chemical attacks. Many of the victims succumbed to their injuries gradually after the end of the war.
Meanwhile, Iraqi army sprayed inhabitants of the Iraqi Kurdish city of Halabja with poison gas on March 16, 1988 in a military operation against Iraqi Kurdish population called Anfal killing more than 5,000 and wounding several thousand people. Many of those affected by the chemical attack died gradually and the remaining are suffering from illnesses pertaining to the gassing.

'NET BUSTING HATE BILL READIED
From Free-Market News Network:
Senator Edward Kennedy will attach his hate crimes bill, S.1145 onto the Sex Offenders Registration Act, according to the office of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.
The bill passed the Senate 65 to 33 in 2002 but was stripped in conference. The Judiciary Committee defeated the bill last Thursday. FMNN has reported that the bill is part of a larger package of measures aimed not so much at those who are in some sense "racist" but at the alternative press itself which already has been targeted by the Bush State Dept.
The Hate Crimes bill, the State Dept. initiative and press Shield bill announced by Senator Richard Lugar create a formidable package of weaponary for legislators seeking to attack and weaken the alternative Internet press. This initiative is solidly backed by the mainstream media which has not sought to cover it with any level of analytical certainty but has instead reported on the package as a series of discreet and unlinked items.
