It been said that a lot of the slaves when freed didn't want to leave the farms, does the telegraph think they should have stayed on as slaves?

So people are worried about the unknown we should just keep on discriminating against them seems to be the point of this stupid article as best I can tell........

People don't miss something they never had...and if these women have never lived in a society like America's, then I could see where they would get defensive about being told that they "should" want to change...

however, the part of the report that says that those Abu-GHarib pictures, and the "rumors" or torture at Gitmo, have caused the people to see us as oppressors instead of liberators...then that is a darn shame...

and I just heard that O'Reilly just was saying that the Pentagon hasn't openly fought to keep those videos and other pictures out of the newspaper, after a judge recently ruled in favor of the NYTimes to show them...

The Texan was soon on the defensive. A reporter present said a member of the audience said: "The general image of the Arab woman is that she isn't happy. Well we're all pretty happy."

More left wing rubbish masquerading as news.

I don't envy anyone in our government who has to deal with zealots of any sort. Let these people fend for themselves............after a year or so, they'll be screaming for OUR help.......Then..."Just Say NO".....

America failed to understand them

That's right. The koran calls for killing all Jews and Infidels.
Don't Americans understand that every suicide bomber had a mother?

I am reminded of the "battered woamn" syndrome which applies to most women in that situation who go as far as to defend the abuser against all logic.

Happy is a relative term, a pampered slave is still a slave. We cannot "liberate" the arabs as long as they prefer their own tyrants to what they perceive as foreign puppets. Even if they are freely elected.

Most Germans where not "nazis" yet they fought to the death against all enemies of their nation in order to defend their tyrant. I am afraid the arabs will only change when they finally, like the germans, sit among the rubble of their cities and realize they follow a failed way of life, religion and culture wise. Until we realize that, we will not win the war against Islam. And, it is a war against Islam, the terror phase is merely a small part of it.

Dr Siddiqa Kamal, a female obstetrician, told the New York Times. "I don't want to drive a car. "I worked hard for my medical degree. Why do I need a driver's licence?"

That is SERIOUS "Stockholm Syndrome." Any Western psychologist would say that this person has a mental problem.

This is sorta like, "Yes, my husband beats me, but he is a good provider and I know he loves me."

I sure wouldn't want this "Doctor" treating me or my family.

"Arab Women" is a borderline oxymoron.

How one could be a 'woman' in the Arab world is beyond me.

"I worked hard for my medical degree. Why do I need a driver's licence?"

Oh, now that makes total sense. It must be that Muslim logic.

That people are happy inside a culture that they're used to shouldn't be a surprise.

US feminists have brainwashed the entire country into believing that total freedom is the only way to universal feminine happiness. What I see instead is extreme cultural myopia.

It is unfortunate that even making a cultural and strictly sociological observation opens one up to charges of sexism and oppression here. This should something we pay attention to.

Our way is the best way, no doubt, but expecting others to innately embrace it is just dumb and demonstrates narrow-mindedness.

I just have to say this, even though it isn't the subject of the article or thread...

The best place for Karen Hughes is back in Washington, running interference for President Bush as his PERSONAL public relations person...

His public relations people have NOT served him well...and I thing Karen Hughes could do that...

A US State Department report yesterday stated that after the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal and the controversy over detainees at Guantanamo Bay, America was seen less as "a beacon of hope than a dangerous force to be countered".

Yeah, but we know how to have fun with underware.

"The general image of the Arab woman is that she isn't happy. Well we're all pretty happy."

When our men aren't beating the living crap out of us!

The audience applauded loudly.

There, I fixed it...

Another propaganda ploy by Muslim women who don't want to be understood. Thats the main reason we alledgedly do not understand them.

Women who allow multiple wives, limited travel ( no drivers licenses), the law of purdah ( do not create any desire in a male),are basically females who have been systematically disempowered to the point where they do not want any freedom. A bird kept in a cage it's whole life will not fly out of it when the door is opened. It's world is the cage.

Now, Karen Hughes, a women of success, eloquence and freedom visits and they say," You do not understand us?"

We already do.And for Saudi Women, that is the defining problem. Now they want to make us think we do not understand them.

Hey, bring them to Las Vegas, put them in mini skirts and push up bras, and turn 'em loose!

Do not take them seriously, at all!
