BUSHIES...FReepers eating their own. (Vanity)
Artemis Webb | 09/29/2005 | Artemis Webb

”Can any Bushies or anyone for that matter justify this???”
----unnamed Freeper

That was what sparked this Vanity. I was reading a thread and there was one of our own calling others of our own “Bushies”.

There seems to be a growing amount of attacks on President Bush on this site. I really don't understand why. During his first term the man proposed spending bills like it was his money and not ours and yet there was hardly a whisper of criticism. Frankly I feel like a little criticism of him at that time was justifiable. Just as I feel a little of it is now as well.

But we (the conservatives who elected GWB) have just seen Judge Roberts confirmed. We are about to see someone who is surely going to be to the right of Sandra Day O'Connor nominated to SCOTUS.

We are fighting openly in Afghanistan and Iraq and in so doing keeping radical Islam too busy (so far) to organize attacks domestically.

I am not going to pretend that George W Bush is perfect. He is not,in my opinion, the leader Ronald Reagan was. But he is certainly better than all of the other Presidents we have had from both parties in the last 45 years.

If someone wants to criticize the President for his failures at the Mexican border or for not rescuing Terri Schiavo that's fine. But we are all in this together and George W Bush is OUR PRESIDENT!

I'm sure that some of you are thinking that “Bushies” is hardly an expletive. In my book though it is only a little step to the left to get to, “Bush Worshipers” or “Bush Sheeple” and worse.

I think the old saying is, “When you go to the dance you dance with the one who brung ya”. Right now GWB is our leader. Not a perfect leader. But he's leading the dance that we are all moving to.

I remember hearing Sean Hannity saying that Freepers “tend to eat their own”. I've been on FR a very long time. What Hannity said was true. But there is bad and then there is BAD. And providing the morons at democraticunderground the satisfaction of being able to say that we are calling our own “Bushies” and such is BAD.

I think the freepers you refer to are trolls. Check their sign in date when you see something that appears odd. It usually answered the question of why the comment was made.

We have trolls here --- they're always outed, but it sometimes takes a post or two.

IMHO a lot of those 'FReepers' who make those type of comments are stealth trolls, irrespective of their old sign-up dates. There was an exodus of long-time FReepers a while back, and I think those disgruntled ones 'took' a lot of old, unused user account info with them. Revitalize with a new address/password, or whatever it takes, and all of a sudden "long-time FReepers" come crawling out of the woodwork to tell us all how disappointed they are........

Color me skeptical. It would be interesting to dig into some of these accounts a little, compare posts from years ago to new posts now and compare writing styles.

I would love it if that were true. But the one I quoted signed on in 2003.

There was a brag on DU last week from someone who said he/she had been a troll her for years and never outed.

"and George W Bush is OUR PRESIDENT!"

Amen brother...I too do not agree with the immigration policy or much of the spending of this administration. But you are right, apart from Reagan, he's pretty d@mn good.

Consider the alternative. One of the enduring qualities of a leader is demeanor.

There are conservatives who expect Pres. Bush to "fix" immigration, which no one else has tackled over all the decades. And to go against the Constitution and his own powers and change laws. To in a sense be a dictator and fulfill all their wishes. When he doesn't, they vocally smear him, remove their support (which I believe he never really had), and act betrayed. It is simply a long-standing trend, from my nearly 5 years here and many more of observation.

Bush has failed to stem the flow of illegal aliens into this country. Further, he has proposed policy that has actually encouraged illegal immigration.

Bush has gone along with congressional spending at a dizzying clip. I think I saw Bush's veto pen for sale on eBay: "Veto Pen NIB, Never Used"

Bush leaves more to be desired than is desirable...

There are bushies and bush bashers.

The bush bashers will criticize the president for everything.

The bushies / bushbots etc will support the president no matter what.

Both of them are wrong.

however, the 'bushies' (sorry, I hate cute little phrases like that) are overly sensitive and stand for almost no criticism of what he has done, or failed to do. When you criticize the wild spending, you are accused of not understanding the plan of "spending your way to a limited government" or whatever excuse they can throw out.

Here's the simple test: Would you support the same actions if they were done by president clinton?

Would the wild spending and expansion of government be supported if it was done by clinton?

No. (I know, because it wasn't when he was president)

Would the failure to enforce our borders and immigration laws be accepted if it was done by clinton?

If not, then you're just a hypocrite, and you're putting your support for the president above your principles (if indeed you do have any principles).

That is what the problem is. People basing their positions on who the president is, not what the president does. On both sides.

Learn to laugh at 'em. That's what I do. It amuses me how the haughty, "so conservative 'til they glow" types seem to *sniff* and look down their noses when they are lecturing us.

I will tell you great confidence that this site and those who contribute thoughts to it differentiate themselves in one great and unmistakable arena. It is the arena of ideas. Ironically, this happens to also be where we faithful conservatives are winning in politics as well.

I only get discouraged when I see blatant disrespect and vitriol toward other posters here. For the most part, there is honest debate, fun and articulate exchange of thoughts and opnions. Unlike our political foes, who routinely jump on the liberal activist cause or defense bandwagon with no logical intellectual support. I would steer away from discouraging members from offering support and critism alike. Debate spawns innovation and ideas. I think that the overwhelming majority of posters here have the best interest of our nation at heart.

Besides, I love to debate intelligent people who are well informed and able to articulate tangible facts and draw logical conclusions. It makes my brain healthy and my soul wise.

There seem to be some who have (somehow) started to believe the MSM chatter, forgetting how reliable the spin doctors and talking heads were during the Clinton regime. They seem most prone to the negativity. Fox News seems to have done some 'centrist' morphing, too--just my impression.

Most of these folks seem to have relatively recent sign up dates, too.

Keep referring the nabobs of negativity to posts past, we should educate them when possible.

As for our President, he was not my first choice, (first term--although that choice was a Republican), but he has been a good choice for the times, and frankly, has done an impressive job of stomping many of the largest rats facing the US...

He has my support.

I think the freepers you refer to are trolls.

Wishful thinking I'm afraid. There is a very loud contingent right now who have a deep frustration on several issues and are unable to see beyond them.

I don't expect them to agree with me and believe their opinions are important to the health and well-being of the conservative movement. I have no need to question their credentials, I just disagree with them.

Unfortunately, the reverse is not true and I have seen many good conservatives, who happen to support the President on most issues, dismissed as Bushies, Bushbots, and Rinos. It's not right, but it is what it is. And that is very, very frustrating.

Although I'm disappointed in some of W's policies, he was the most conservative candidate with a chance of being elected.

We have our whackos on the right; persons who learned nothing from Perot, and gave us 8 years of Clinton, because G.H.W. Bush was not conservative enought for them to vote for.

I agree with the sense of this post. No politician will ever be perfect. But the fact is Bush is driving the car and those of his own party who would pull on the steering wheel need to understand that Bush probably has a destination in mind, and the wheel pullers are single issue voters who want to upset the "car of state" because of a lack of patience where their issue is concerned. I support the war in Iraq, I pray for more victories and fewer catastrophies. Bush can help by releasing any hobbles he has put on the team over there. I would like to see a border policy that closes the door to illegal entry, but I recognize the politics here are nasty. I applaud the new Chief Justice, the tax cuts, and the fact that our second ammendment rights are safer with this administration than the group that would have served from the democratic party.

Bush does not need to be perfect to not be Gore or Kerry. I do not believe reasonable arguements amounts to "eating our own" as I have in the past and expect to in the future change my position as I read the information on these links.

Our opponents are trying very, very hard right now to divide us. I consider that a naked attempt to get us to distrust each other.

If you are so deep under cover no one can tell...and you aren't making a difference...it doesn't matter anyway.

None of us are really that stupid. (Insert sly smile here.)
