Mark Levin on DeLay
National Review Online ^ | 9/28/05 | Mark R. Levin

Posted on 09/28/2005 11:07:04 AM PDT by wcdukenfield

DELAY [Mark R. Levin] Here's my first take on this indictment (I've only read the indictment and nothing more for now): The indictment is three pages in length. Other than a statement that "one or more" of 3 individuals, including Tom DeLay, entered into an illegal conspiracy, I can't find a single sentence tying Tom DeLay to a crime. That is, there's not a single sentence tying DeLay to the contribution. The indictment describes the alleged conduct of two other individuals, but nothing about DeLay. You would think if Ronnie Earle had even a thin reed of testimony linking DeLay to the contribution, it would have been noted in the indictment to justify the grand jury's action. Moreover, not only is there no information about DeLay committing acts in furtherance of a conspiracy, there's no information about DeLay entering into a conspiracy. I honestly believe that unless there's more, this is an egregious abuse of prosecutorial power. It's a disgrace. I understand that not everything has to be contained in an indictment, but how about something! Posted at 01:58 PM

By bringing false indictments it is a bad thing for anyone, regardless of party. If the people do not like Delay, they will vote him out. If you do not like Delay call your congressman and ask him to support someone else, but if this is a political witchhunt, it is bad for all Americans and is never justified.

If the DA is bringing a false charge for political purposes I have full confidence it will turn around and bite them in the A$$. He probably is on a witch hunt, didn't something like this happen to Kay Baley Hutchinson?

In the end Kay Baley Hutchinson triumphed, so if deLay is innocent, he's going to be fine.

I'm not going to spend the time trying to prove anything to you because it's obvious that you like Kool Aid a bit too much. It's hard to dis sway true believers of anything.

Consider this though, if the party of Ronald Reagan can spend like drunken sailors and big government liberals, anything is possible then, no?

IIRC, this was the last day that this grand jury could issue an indictment. So the timing isn't so much a conspiracy, but more likely a sign of the weakness of the case.

It's working out just great for them. Why shouldn't it be since that is what people have come to expect from these crooks? They have no moral standards, and unfortunately neither do most of the people who elect them. Sad, but true!

I agree with this statement, except it's not working out for them at all, they've lost the house, they've lost senate and they've lost the presidency. They haven't won a major election in ten years.

"Oh, so now you get to define the conversation and only good members (by your standards) of the party get to make comments?"

Would you please explain just exactly WTF you're babbling about, in rational sentence format? None of your replies to my posts appear to have much to do with the posts you're replying to.

Read my prior posts on this issue. I want him to take the prosecutor to the wood shed. I then want him to resign or simply not run for re-election because he is a failure as the Speaker.

I agree Delay is a failure as the speaker, seeing as how he is not the Speaker.

Smells like a 'ham sammich' indictment.

Isn't this the same tactic they pulled on Gingrich?

I'd say pretty damn well. Hillary will probably be their nominee in '08 and has a real chance of winning and ted Kennedy is in his what 6th term?

Hillary will never be president, she will not carry the South, without the South you cant be president. As for ted kennedy, he will never be president either which is what he desired most, he is fat, drunk and stupid. Perhaps if he had done his time like he so richly deserved for the second degree murder(in my opinion) of Mary Jo Kopechne, he would have more respect for himself.

I am listening to Hannity..Judge Napolitano came on at a newsbreak and said he is not charged with anything but agreeing to funnel Texas corporate money to national and then back to Texas...AGREEING, not doing......Pathetic indictment.

"I think he should be treated like anyone else"

Treated like any other Republican or treated like any other Democrat?

Dimbos don't care if they have egg on their face. Their sole goal is to be opportunity driven obstructionists which is what they've done here. They don't give a tinker's damn about the Country. The 'indictment' is just a tool to slow down the effectiveness of Republican efforts to run the country. Since the dims don't have anything to offer, the 'indictment' becomes a tool they use to slow things down, draw attention to themselves, and stay in the public eye, as charges are always more important to a lefty than the evidence to back it up.

You can't provide a name to prove your charge. Just One Name.

You then resort to accusations it is I with the problem.

Thank you for discrediting your accusations, as well as yourself, documented in this thread for everyone to read.

Probably....but if this rerun doesn't take precedence over LA corruption coverage - and the media's choked admissions of reporting baseless rumor over fact - I WILL be surprized.

Politics has never included absolutes, unless it was coming from the Democrat side of the aisle.

We conservatives can hardly insist that our leaders be more willing to stand up for us than we are for them.

Whether we feel sorry for Delay or not, is beside the point. The issue is whether we are willing to tolerate the tactics the left is using to ruin him. Consider the lengths they're going to chalk up a "victory" not because he did something illegal, because he's Republican. They disrespect our system by abusing it, and abusing Republicans. Truly despicable.

We've read the indictment. Until we get some "meat" he IS innocent and we should treat him as such and attack these leftist political opportunists.

Agreed. I never said he should be treated like a criminal.

What has transpired here is a transparent effort to assassinate DeLay. While the process used to eliminate him as a threat is sleazy, it is also politics at its finest. Is he guilty? Hard to argue one way or another until their is a fair hearing and that will likely not happen for a bit.

Tom DeLay is also a sell out and that's not just an indictment on his personality, it's also about his performance as Majority Leader. Rallying to his defense is akin to being a defense attorney protesting to the treatment of his client. Guess someone has to do it on the grounds or principle but using that in the same sentence as DeLay is a stretch.

Ask Mike Pence how is ass feels lately....

Sure. And if Ronnie Earle wrongly accused DeLay of a crime he and the county that pays his salary should be sued to oblivion.

Amen to that!

There must be a RAT somewhere who needs a reprieve from media attention. This is just another smokescreen by the RATS to protect their own. The end always justifies the means with these cretins.

My guess is to divert attention from the corruption slop in Louisiana. Dems could, and should, lose control over LA. If there are "phantom cops" who have been voting in LA, the whole house could come tumbling down...top to bottom.

Have forgotten - was LA red or blue? Alot of their hurricane "refugees" may not go back. That's a bunch of lost Dem votes right there.
