Air America, the liberal radio counterpart to Rush Limbaugh, is now asking its listeners to send in money, leading some analysts to say the network is "crumbling."
The network, featuring voices including Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo, has developed a program where people become "associate" members by contributing cash.

What companies are going to advertise on a network that is inherently anti-capitalist? Besides, with the exception of the Hollywood 'elite', most liberals are poor and young. I don't think that's the problem. Their ratings suck. Nobody is listening. I mean there's all kinds of TV crap that appeals exclusively to the poor and young and they seem to draw plenty of ads for sneakers, liquor and snack foods.
What I don't get is, why is AirAmerica failing? Let's face it, it isn't like there is a shortage of liberals. They're coming out of ceiling. Almost half the electorate voted for Kerry. So why don't they listen to Air America? Theories anyone?

I heard that McEnroe's show was so low-rated that they would have saved money mailing DVDs to to the viewers instead of broadcasting.

"Here is a so-called comedian trying to be taken seriously as a political commentator. "
Jackie Mason subs on "conservative" radio WABC 770 in New York. He's not bad at all.
Howard Stern has been OK with political comments occasionally.
Franken even scores a few points by pointing out conservative mistakes. He's unlistenable because he rarely has anything positive or constructive to say.

My guess as to why it's failing would be a simple lack of entertainment. Rush, Snow, Hugh and Medved are at least engaging, and rarely, if ever, go off on hate-filled rants. I listen to Savage every once in a while, but the screaming wears me out. I couldn't imagine putting up with that level of vitriol all the time, even if it was something I agreed with.
Combine that with a what I'm guessing would be a reluctance by some potential sponsors to have their product associated with a left-wing hate fest, and there you have it.
I know my local (Seattle) station that carries AA shuffled the lineup around pretty severely, and most ad time is taken up with PSAs, with some ads from lefty small businesses, like the homosexual plumber (I'm not joking).

Not everyone who voted for Sen. Kerry is a liberal - there are too many people scared of the President because they believed everything the MSM spoon-fed them.
That's starting to change.
The next GOP Prez candidate will fare much better, even VP Chaney.

They're overpaying the air talent, they're fending off lawsuits, they're overspending. They just put a brand new studio facility in. They didn't need that. That was at Franken's insistence and now he's not even going to use it. This is why liberals are against capitalism, because they don't understand it.

Wow what a memory flogger-I'm reminded of the late night jock out of Little Rock Arkansas late 70's-KAAY Clyde Clifford- Beaker street. There was a rumor at the time he left the station he had absconded with a sizable portion of the station's music. An Al Franken hero.

You should really give Air America a listen while it is still around, it is quite an eye-opener. Malloy and the really loud woman (Randi Rhodes sp?) can go off on some pretty impressive "Bush and the conservatives hate you and want you dead" rants.
Imagine if you took some of the most abrasive posters from FR, moved their political views several slots to the right, then gave them hallucinogens and speed and put them on the air after showing them evidence that Hillary was going to steal the Presidential election, and you would have the "conservative" version of Air America.
It isn't the counterpart to conservative talk radio at all.

Man that'd be a good scene for the upcoming DOOM movie. A scary thought no matter what.
