A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....09-26-05....Military Monday
Billie, The Mayor

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Thanks for the graphic, Dubya. Brave soldiers then, brave soldiers now. We are grateful for those who server our country so that we don't have to live in tyranny.

Yummm! Hershey's milk chocolate with almonds! One of the best candy bars ever made. (along with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and snickers, and maybe #1 is that thick milk chocolate bar with almonds that schools and other groups use for fundraisers!)

Around here, locals pronounce "Almonds" as "Amonds"

Would that be as in "Ah-monds" or like "Al but without the "l"? I pronounce it "Allmonds" (awlmonds) :)

Hi, Dolly - it's still awfully hot here - high 90's and even 100 degrees - crazy weather doesn't know it's autumn yet.

What better family to look at than the First Family! They are so cute, all smiles like that!

Looks like it was scanned from a newspaper, and the byte size is huge, like so many scanner pics.

Hi, PaL - haven't seen you in a while - have a good vacation? ;)

Nope. "A-monds" Those machines shake the L right out of 'em.

Interesting article in our paper this am regarding harvest time...

It's Harvest Time...

Looking for something about The Louisiana National Guard for Military Monday, a vital player in the After Katrina/Rita scenes, their Home Page led me to this great story:

Soldiers of the 256th Brigade Combat Team raise their
hands and promise to “support and defend the
Constitution of the United States against all enemies,
foreign and domestic”at a ceremony in the Tiger Chapel in
Baghdad, Iraq, July 20, 2005. U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Bennett Landreneau,
adjutant general of the Louisiana National Guard, presided over the ceremony.
U.S. Army photo by Spc. Chris Foster

Over 400 Louisiana Guard Soldiers Re-enlist

~ Snip ~

CAMP TIGERLAND, Iraq, July 27, 2005 — On July 20, in a chapel in Baghdad, voices rang out together, not in a song of praise, but in commitment. More than 400 National Guard soldiers of the 256th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division raised their right hands and swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.”

More significant than the number of soldiers who simultaneously extended their service to the military is that these National Guard soldiers did so in a combat zone.

~ Snip ~

Please go to the wonderful Full Story!!

All you have to do is to - Click Here -

The National Guard is every bit as dedicated as full time active military members.

Picnic for Finest! GREAT. Well, just so it is NOT at Nans or Maggies as rumor has it (from THEM) they don't cook!

Let's do a progressive dinner.. I'll plan a thread on that. Maybe sometime in Oct/Nov. I already have my next three "underway" to varying degrees.

:-)

Rita still visiting with us. Took dogs out in rain in park this AM. Lots of roads closed w/fords overflowing. dogs had a good time - ran for about 45 minutes, swam in overflowing river & rolled in mud/horse poop combo..& of course were muddier & wetter than usual. I simply do NOT go crazy with mud/mess in van. Life is too short. It dries, I vacuum & occasional wash upholstery.

Went shopping for misc needed things & ended up with a full cart of misc food/items. Going to make Pirogi today..w/homemade cinnamon applesauce.

Listening to Rush.. the awful voice of Cindy cuts! and some other gravely woman sounded so irritating - her voice as well as her words. Jesse Jackson.. well, yuk. His voice isn't bad but his content was ridiculous & I don't like his "accent" (okay, sorry for gripes)

I have sent some of you an interesting map that was too big to post well. I have not finished transferring all of my addy book to new account.

I did post it at ATRW but reduced & I am sure people have a hard time reading it. It is a map of all the hurricanes that have it the coast & color coded by category & with dates. I thought it was a neat map.

The National Guard is every bit as dedicated as full time active military members.

You've got that right. :) A lot of people think that National Guard are not as prepared for war as active duty. Tank's unit proved that wrong in Iraq. They were serving along side an active duty unit. The NG unit got better equipment, more runs, and more recognition because they were able to perform better than the active duty guys.

Just one example that just because they only train one weekend a month doesn't mean that they don't know what they are doing.
