Safe and sound here. We never even left Victoria. Mandatory Evac lifted mid-day Thursday and changed to Voluntary Evac. We did have a curfew Thur & Fri night, because there were a lot of people gone and most all businesses were closed and boarded up. Most things are opening back up again today. Barely any wind - I'd call it a breeze - with a few swirly bands of white clouds against a blue sky.
Can you post your story about the water down in Beaumont over here?

With all the tragedies, I finally reasoned why Shep and others would be out braving the elements in deserted towns. The need for comic relief. I think the folks back in the studios had a pool going on which one would get hit with a Flying Fireplug first.
Don't know if anyone got the award, but my money's on Shep for sheer determination.

Shep has a lot to make up for after the mess he made in NO. The least he could do was furnish us with some comic relief :o)
Ironically, many Houston evacuess probably drove into harm's way in an attempt to escape the storm. Sad, condidering what they went through to get out of town. Now, many are probably stranded as they try to find gas, and it will be another traffic jam back home.
Speaking of preparedness, someone told me of a guy who always keeps plywood for boarding up windows. He cut them to size, and labeled each piece, so he can apply them to windows, etc quite quickly. I think I will do that in the hurricane off-season (if we ever get to it).
Well, everything is fine here. Just some strong gusts of wind every now and then and very little rain.
The good news for us is that our weather guy said that this storm could clean up the atmosphere overhead and allow fall like weather to come through. That would be good news indeed.
Hahahaha. I think he redeemed himself. I mean, that stunt with the hat was genius.
I just realized why our 7 week old puppy just came flying into the house a few minutes ago.
It is the first time that she has seen rain!
She was not impressed.
LOL Actually, it's been quite dark here since Wednesday night when I covered the windows with plywood. I kind of like it, wife doesn't.

I didn't make the "worried about" list. Guess 'cause I'm so new to posting. Oh, well, I don't know anybody who was more terrified beforehand than I was.
And I assume all others are as grateful as I am that all went OK, especially power and water. I finally passed out from 2-3 days' worth of exhaustion about 1 AM, scared that some big, bad boogeyman of a 'cane would attack me in my sleep. She didn't!
I'm staying put and sealed in until I'm sure she's gone. Thanks for those who prayed for ALL of us, newbies included.
My husband the same way. He said he's not going to keep putting them up and taking them down and that it will reduce our electric bill. I insisted the front ones come down though.
You're welcome, and don't be shy about signing in around here. We like to make sure that every freeper made it through OK and if we don't hear back we "go on the hunt" :o)
That is one thing I did not mention. The Katrina thing really did put people into a frenzy and the media took advantage of this. I also think our public officials wanted to be overly cautious because of the NO mayor and the LA governor's debacle of a plan.
I think this caused a big problem and there will be a lot of finger pointing but I have a lot more trust in our public officials than the LA public officials.
From what I understand they're advising Houstonian's not to come back yet. They want the opening up to be more smooth than the evacuation was and the gasoline isn't there yet.
